In 2009 Vans will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ‘Caballero’ skate shoe. In 1989 Vert skating was nearing one of its many peaks, and street skating was still taking shape. Skateboarders were looking for shoes with a bit more support, grip, and durability that would hold up to the abuse of a wide variety of street skating. Vans debuted one of the very first pro model skate shoes ever, the Vans Caballero. The Caballero was made for Steve Caballero, one of the original members of the Powell Peralta Bones Brigade who would go on to become a skateboarding legend decades later, and so would his shoes. In the 90s Vans was forced to make a more comfortable version dubbed the Vans Half Cab, due to the explosion of street skateboarding and skaters wanting something a bit less bulky. Still the Vans Caballero is the only shoe to stand the test of time for skateboarders for over 20 years. In 2009 Vans will release a few special Caballero models that will feature special embroidering on the heel taking not of this monumental event. Info: Skatehere
