Nike Dunk Gyrizo

With BMX entering the 2008 Beijing Olympics for the first time in the history of the Olympics, it seems appropriate that a major sportswear manufacturer such as Nike would begin to show some interest in the sport. The Nike Dunk Gyrizo is clear proof of that interest, as it is one of the colossal company’s first forays into the emerging BMX market. The Gyrizo-Greek for “wheel”- appears to be a standard pair of Nike dunks, albeit with a strap, until one digs into the technological aspect of the kicks. The internal plate helps to transfer energy each time the rider pumps their legs to move the pedals, and the grommets are made from Kevlar and metal in order to increase the overall durability of the shoes. Furthermore, when combined with a hidden lace pocket, the strap up top helps to keep the riders’ laces out of their bike’s chain and spokes. Of special note is that these kicks are built upon the same cycling last as Lance Armstrong’s cleat; Armstrong is arguably the most visible face in bicycling today, and the technology afforded to his shoes has been shown to definitely produce results. Expect these Gyrizos to quickly soar to popularity in the BMX scene, as they’re built with the style and quality we’ve all come to expect from Nike in every field it produces footwear for.
