With this year’s Olympics still fresh in the world’s collective mind, many have looked back to previous Olympics for memories and other momentous moments in history.  The 1968 Mexico City Olympics are of particular note, in that they featured Tommie Smith’s salute to the Civil Rights movement as he stood on the podium with his gold medal.  While at that time his salute was considered offensive by some, time has proven it to be a milestone event in the Civil Rights struggle, and Smith has been commemorated by Puma with this pair of Clydes, in both gold and navy colorways.  One flashy, the other calm, both feature the numbers 19.83, in reference to Smith’s world record setting time in the 200 meter, as well as “Mexico City” written beneath the Puma logo, furthermore indicating the Olympics in question.  The Clyde is one of the more popular styles today, and both colorways here do it more than fair justice.  If there ever were shoes worthy of Tommie Smith’s legacy, these clean kicks are definitely them.  Via Atmos.
