We just saw the Saucony Candy Pack, and just like the multinational conglomerates that cook up the little bits of joy they drew inspiration from, we’re thankful a single company can’t claim a monopoly on flavor. New Balance occupies a similar market position as Saucony (albeit in different regions), so it’s not shocking to see that they’ve jumped on the sugarland express bandwagon.
Just like the Shadow 6000s we mentioned above, NB didn’t get any official love from candymakers when designing these new 996s. The world’s foremost WASP cobblers took the idea a bit further than their Pennsylvania-based competetors, adding a lowercase “n” button (easily inserted into an eyelet of your choice) that looks suspiciously like iconic candy bits that also inspire the polka-dotted tongue tag.
Available in both the M&Ms/Skittles-derived purple/pink colourway and a silver makeup that draws inspiration from aluminum chocolate wrappers, Random Ramblings has these pegged for a Spring/Q1 2009 release. Take a look at more pics after the jump and check back with Sneaker News for updates.
