The 2008-09 NBA All-Star Weekend came to an end last night with the actual All-Star Game itself being played in front of a sold out crowd as US Airways Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant were reunited with Phil Jackson for the first time since Shaq was traded to Miami in the Summer of 2004. Coincidentally enough the two shared the MVP honors, something many of us might never have saw coming. Aside from the game itself all eyes were on who was wearing what shoe. While over the course of the last few years with sneakers becoming more and more of a big deal and various media outlets such as ourselves here at Sneaker News having access to pictures of the shoes months before they’re debuted on the hardwood the element of surprise is taken away. None the less it’s still good to see some of the colorways and PE’s of the various models that Nike, Jordan, Converse, Reebok, and adidas have to offer.
Nike showcased their two stars players with one on each team; for the East it was Lebron James and his Nike Zoom Lebron VI, for the West it was Co-MVP, Kobe Bryant, and his Zoom Kobe IV. Additionally there were a number of Nike players including Tony Parker and Danny Granger who wore the Nike Huarache 09, Pau Gasol and Rashard Lewis who wore the Nike Hyperdunk, Amare Stoudemire and the Nike Foamposite Lite, Dirk Nowitzki and the Air Spot Up, and Brandon Roy was seen with a new pair of Nike Basketball shoes that we currently don’t have any additional information on. Lastly it seems Lebron’s teammate, Mo Williams, made the switch from adidas over to Nike as he was seen wearing a pair of the Hyperdunks.
Jordan Brand had three players in this year’s game including nine-time NBA All-Star, Ray Allen, as well as Joe Johnson and Chris Paul. While Allen and Johnson each wore a pair of the new Air Jordan 2009 in their respective East PE’s, Chris Paul debuted his new Brand Jordan signature shoe, the CP3.II.
Converse had it’s lone All-Star with Dwyane Wade and the Wade Slash All-Star PE. The three stripes were represented via Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett. Reebok had their two yearly All-Stars on the court in Allen Iverson and Yao Ming. And last but not least the other Co-MVP of the game, Shaquille O’Neal, and his Li Ning shoe.

Kobe Bryant has said on a number of occasions that had he decided not to forgo college and enter straight into the NBA Draft he would have played for the Duke Blue Devlis, coached by the legendary Mike Krzyzewski, who happened to be Team USA’s coach this past Summer during the 2008 Beijing Olympics where Kobe and company led Team USA to a Gold Medal. None the less Kobe has never been shy about his love for Duke and Coach K, so it should come as no surprise that he would work with Nike and Duke to create some special Zoom Kobe IV Player Exclusive colorways for the Blue Devils. The Home colorway is predominantly White while the Away is mostly Black, both feature the Duke “Iron D” on the back of the heel above Kobe’s “24″. No word on whether or not these will be released but don’t be surprised if you start seeing some of the Blue Devils wearing these during their next game inside of Cameron Indoor Stadium. via Blue Planet Shots

For those of you watching the NBA All Star Game and are wondering what Dwyane Wade of the Miami HEAT is wearing on the court, we just got this in, he is wearing a special version of the Converse WADE Slash. Named “Slash” after the explosive, driving playing style of Wade, it features a built-in fit system to give players increased stability and a personalized fit. It is a lightweight, speed shoe built for one of the game’s most exciting players, while its off-court appeal captures Dwyane’s “best dressed” style. The colorway Dwyane Wade is wearing during the game is not available at retail, but the WADE Slash is available now at retail in four colorways.

As he stared down a giant in a modern day David and Goliath showdown, all eyes were on little Nate Robinson’s feet. To add some entertaining theatrics to last night’s high-flying NBA Dunk Competition in Phoenix, Nate debuted his special “Kryptonate” Nike Foamposite Lites, a clever way of getting the edge on reigning dunk champ, Dwight Howard and his Superman alter ego. The glowing green element did its job, getting major love from TNT and the crowd and helping Nate play the Lex Luthor part to perfection as he dethroned Superman in style. Decked out in green from head to toe, Nate’s radiant Kryptonite-inspired Foamposite Lites and matching basketball and Pro-Combat elbow pad were quite possibly as big a story as his gravity-defying leap over his 7 foot opponent.
When we last saw the shoes, New York Knicks die-hard, Spike Lee, was trying to wrestle them away from the champ. No word if he was successful, but surely he is not the only one who would love to get their hands on a rare piece of Slam Dunk history. As far as we know, there are no plans to release the shoe for retail, but it has cemented its immediate status as one of the most memorable Slam Dunk Contest images of the last decade, as well as one of the most incredible PE’s ever seen.

It looks like Nike Sportswear is at it again with another collaboration concept utilizing their classic Nike Dunk High as the centerpiece. This time, NSW has chosen to collaborate with art and fashion conscious Nylon Magazine to design two fresh Dunk High colorways. As far as we can tell based on the leaked pictures, the shoes will come in two solid color scheme, using vivid pink and lime green. To spice up the basic monotone, the Dunks feature nylon material on the entire upper. According to Nylon’s website, you will be able to catch these beauties on ‘cool girls’ during this seasons New York Fashion Week, but no further details will be available until Nylon’s April issue. Stay tuned to Sneaker News as information becomes more available.

Besides the actual NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night every NBA fan knows that the Slam Dunk Contest held on Saturday night of the All-Star Weekend is the most exciting event of the entire weekend and this year was no different as we saw more props and dramatization than ever before with 6-foot-10 Dwight Howard and 5-foot-9 Nate Robinson dueling it out. Dwight Howard came back out with his Superman costume while Nate Robinson brought out his “KRYPTONATE” Nike Foamposite Lite PE’s with a matching t-shirt and jersey. Needless to say Robinson’s Kryptonite was too much for Howard thus leading to Robinson capturing this year’s Slam Dunk Contest. On another note, check out J.R. Smith of the Denver Nuggets bringing out the new Nike Basketball shoe the Zoom Flight Club. Now we just want to know, Nike when and where are you going to be releasing the Nate Robinson KRYPTONATE Foamposite Lite PE’s?

Here is a look at what the players from the East and West teams had to wear during their practice session. If you’re wondering why these Air Jordan I’s look extra fresh, it may be because the shoe has not often been seen in a monochromatic upper. Obviously, the metallic pewter material looks great, but the solid color really accentuates the beautiful classic silhouette of the shoe. A touch of black is a nice complement on the sole and laces, but its the max orange on the lining and tongue that makes these kicks pop right off the screen. The shoe will be released Saturday, January 31st and will no doubt be one of the most sought after Air Jordan I’s in a while. If you can’t wait until tomorrow, cop them now from Lowtex.
