Nike Air Raid Archive Site

Though some have thoughtlessly dismissed it as an imitation of the similarly strapped Air Jordan VIII (8), the Nike Air Raid is known to astute sneakerheads as a legend in its own right.  Reebok had its ‘Blacktop’ collection for outdoor ballin’ in the early ’90s, so Phil Knight commissioned Tinker Hatfield to do up a streetball sneaker for the Swoosh.  The Air Raid dropped in 1992, and was retroed last year, including one that took part in the Urban Jungle Pack.  That version opted for a white upper, inverting the original (pictured above, top-right).  We found a dope little site dedicated to archiving all things Air Raid, so open a new window and point it to Air-Raids.com

WOW, I remember getting a pair of those from JCPenny outlet waaay back when i was in like 4th or 5th grade and they were already outdated so i never even wore them. I gave them away deadstock, no lie.

To my knowledge the Air Raid was conceived as an outdoor version of the Jordan VIII, and was later deemed a separate class of Nike Basketball, as you mention to compete with Reebok’s “Blacktop” and Adidas “Streetball” before the likes of And 1 (which aren’t designed for streetball, are they?)

Just thought I’d chime in. I love Air Raids and happen to be wearing a pair right now. All white, black straps, no white detail for the strap stitching, just solid black. Finally broke them out after a couple years.
