John Maeda’s mathematically-inclined Reebok designs have shown us how far patterns can go on sneakers. For his latest effort, Maeda got back to basics and literally took a page from his own book. The Reebok ERS 5000 Maeda Reduce doesn’t look like a fractal or a chalkboard, but it does immediately catch your eye. These are done in a shiny metallic silver leather with just a single ‘equation’ on the toe. His first of The Laws of Simplicity sums it up nicely: “The simplest way to achieve simplicity is through thoughtful reduction.” These are available at select Reebok retailers worldwide. via HB
