On Monday night, Nike Sportswear rolled out the orange carpet for a special launch event to introduce the fresh new line of Syracuse-inspired NSW gear designed by world-renowned artist, Futura. The event was planned around a ESPN Big Monday college basketball matchup between #4 ranked Syracuse and their longtime rivals, the Georgetown Hoyas, but there was no mistaking that the night was all about the Orange. Nike’s 21 Mercer store was decked out from floor to ceiling with Orangemen imagery, including some wall pieces tagged up by the man of the hour himself. Along with Futura, former Syracuse stars Pearl Washington and Paul Harris were in the house to root on their team and to show their support for the new Futura x NSW project.
After some interviews and raffle giveaways, (including a Bespoke session with Futura!) it was time for tip-off as a packed house of attendees shifted their attention to the multiple TV’s that were showing the game. Much to the delight of the heavily pro-Orange crowd, the Cuse got the win, making the night a complete success for all involved. Whether you came out on Monday or not, keep reading for a look at a bunch of pics from the event.

Grapes typically ripen from June to September, but these joints are ready to go right now. And we’re glad we don’t have to wait to get the Air Jordan Sixty Plus in the AJ5-evoking ‘Grape’ colourway. If you saw them at a glance, you might actually think these were Air Jordan Vs, but instead of mesh inserts, the entire upper on these is white leather. Previously expected as an Asia-exclusive, they’re available today from German e-tailer Schuh-You.

The NBA All-Star Game has a tradition of its own; the Dunk Contest, 3 Pt. Shootout, and Charles Barkley making a fool out of himself are all recurring events at the All-Star Game. Another tradition happens to be the release of special colourways of the Nike Air Force 1, an annual treat that AF1 collectors look forward to. We’ve already previewed three of the All-Star Air Force 1 Low, so check out the new Black colourway alongside its twin brethren and the fourth fraternal twin in the All-Star Nike Air Force 1 High. All pairs should be available in the states very soon. via Urbanlook.

We see athlete superstars put their all on the courts, but it’s always interesting to get some more insight into their personalities. Kobe admits that one of his favorite films of all time is Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill.” This was a Nike release waiting to happen. But how can this possibly have solid conceptual structure? Think about this, perfectly noted by fellow Kill Bill fan and movie enthusiast, Jason Faustino of Extra Butter:
Nicknamed the “Black Mamba“, Kobe Bryant’s favorite movie and lethal nickname provided the inspiration behind the Big Nike High and Auto Flight High below. In addition to being an incredibly dangerous snake, “Black Mamba” was also the nickname for of the most deadly member of the “Deadly Viper Assassination Squad”, played by Uma Thurman.
The Big Nike High’s colorway is quite obvious with the upper also receiving a splattering of blood – most likely from the blade of a Hattori Hanzo sword! The Auto Flight High comes with a mixed nubuck/leather upper and a classy vulcanized bottom.
The in-soles also feature Black Mamba’s infamous “Death List”, with a little Kobe-twist to it. Last year’s NBA championship defeat was over the Boston Celtics – leaving Ray Allen and Paul Pierce to be the first 2 names crossed off Kobe’s list. Will #’s 3, 4, and 5 be next?
Kill Bill quickly became a top-10 for many, and we’ll what type of tension is provoked out of All-Star Weekend, and see what type of wrath and vengeance is bestowed upon from Bryant as the post-season looms closer. Available now at Extra Butter.

It’s a great thing to see how so many aspects of society can influence the direction and progress of the sneaker community. But let’s not forget that our culture that we’ve become so fond of came forth from our original love for sports culture- specifically basketball. Player signature shoes has become a focal point, actually basketball shoes in general have been back on the rise. Lately it’s been circulating around All-Star Weekend, when th ebest of the best come to gether to throwdown. But don’t get things twisted, when all is said and done, these guys wanna go back to their teams and hold it down.
The adidas “Fan’dom” Pack has built so much team pride for 6 of the NBA’s biggest teams. For those under a rock, the pack will include Phantom II Mids repping colors for the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics. The team logos are woven on the tongue, and the squads name displayed on the heel. Though an exact release day has still yet to be established, we know that only a select few FootLockers will have them for sale. Check the list below for location details and expect these to release in the next few weeks as they are expected to arrive at the store in early February. Via Unlocked.

The 2010 NBA All Star Game starters have been announced, but we still haven’t gotten a look at more than one photo of these until now. Like the Zoom Kobe V and Air Max LeBron VII ASG drops, these Nike Hyperizes feature that dope woodgrain 3M overlay, including an inset star right around the pinky toe area. The East’s blue joints have a similarly hewn but translucent outsole, while the West contrasts their red uppers with the traditional icey bottom. It’s a tough choice, but you have until next Friday, Feb 5th when they’re set to drop at House of Hoops. via Slam
