To be passionate about anything – an object, an idea – is to understand its origin, to fully immerse your being in its history and present state to the point of absolute, unrestricted comprehension. Nike Air is a concept rooted in the fundamental laws of science; air won’t flatten or disappear, nor will it tear or change its composition. Nike Air serves as the metaphorical pen that rewrote history; it is the result of harnessing the most vital element of life known to man into a midsole cushioning system that revolutionized the footwear industry and sport of running over the course of three storied decades. Continue reading for a thorough look back at some classic Nike artifacts, technology and history.

Before the sneaker culture exploded into what it is today, hype and info on the latest kicks were really just a word of mouth thing, and for the most part, most of the hottest sneakers around weren’t quickstrikes or limited releases or collaborations. They were just fresh kicks that you would see in your local sneaker spot. While some of us were smart enough to preserve some OG gems, we all have plenty of regrets about some classic treasures that we beat into the ground. In the case of some of these blasts from the past, we couldn’t have ever known that they would eventually be considered classics.

Whether you’re a fan of his music or not, sneakerheads should respect the Wale’s kick game to some degree. The Washington D.C. native was spotted performing at LAVO at the Palazzo in Las Vegas a few nights ago wearing a pair of the Nike Air Max 24/7′s that won’t be released until the second half of this year. Wale’s affinity for sneakers has been well documented having been the latest celebrity to be featured on Complex’s Greatest Footwear Moments. We’re looking forward to seeing more detailed images of the Nike Air Max 24/7 in the upcoming weeks.

Sneakerheads and NBA fans alike welcomed the adidas Phantom II back to the courts in 2010. This 80s basketball model isn’t being updated or even worn in its original form by any of the adidas Basketball endorsees, but the six-shoe NBA Fan’Dom Pack brought this classic model some much deserved attention.
Now that the adidas Originals Phantom II Mid is back in rotation, let’s add more than one colour to the upper. Here are four new pairs of Phantoms, two each in mens and boys size ranges. In the adult sizes, you can get a red/white/black edition that’s a little closer to how we typically use the term ‘Chicago’, while the black/white/blue pair is as versatile as it gets. On the kids side of things, a pink and black pair is clearly intended for lil ladies, while the teal, yellow and grey joints give all the little youngsters a taste of early 90s bright. Grab a pair for you and your lil sneakerhead from Foot Locker.

If you said ‘Jordan KO coming in April’ back in the day, Atlanta Hawks fans used to duck. Even further back, you might be referencing the Air Jordan 1 KO, which as you know by now, is being retroed for the first time in a couple of months. The white/red/black pair we’ve seen was the OG colourup that matches the OG AJ1s, but this new Air Jordan 1 Retro KO comes in a red-on-white look that would have saved MJ from being fined. The soles on these don’t look to be pre-yellowed, but colourblocking doesn’t get any simpler than this, which enhances the old school vibe. Stick with Sneaker News for updates on these and all AJKO retros. via FC.T

adidas Originals’ A.039 collection is named after Three Stripes’ code for royal blue, but that shade is conspicuously in short supply on the kicks from that pack. Expect no such confusion from this new trio of adidas Originals Green Star lowtops, just know that all three aren’t all-green. But one is, and its tonal design sets the, well, tone, for similarly colourblocked pairs in blue or orange. Yet another hot lowtop from adidas Originals this spring, you can add the Greenstar to your collection today from Caliroots.

The Air Jordan Flight 45 has been well received as a hightop. Considering that dudes were clamoring for the dinner minty Spiz’ike, this Flight 45 High GS in a similar colourway should get more attention than the average lil ladies’ release. That’s cos the white patent leather upper pulls you in, but details like turquoise stitching and speckled laces and midsoles make these a keeper. Show some little girl how much you love her, and cop a pair from Jordan Brand retailers like Extra Butter.

When money is involved, the cast of Jersey Shore is perfectly willing to let you stalk their whole life(s). With a second season on the way, your boys DJ Pauly D and Mike ‘The Situation’ are back at it with the Reebok Zig Tech. A revolutionary, if gimmicky runner paired with a show that represents the confluence of all things cheesy — couldn’t be a better pairing, right? All we can really say is just enjoy the video that’s waiting for you after the jump, and get ready for the Zig Tech to touch down in March.

Check out these new images of the upcoming Air Jordan Spiz’ike in Black, White, New Blue, and Infrared. The use of blue on the Jumpman and Mars logo on the rear can be seen in the recently released Black/Cement Spiz’ike, but the lower portion of the shoe acts as a reverse rendition. The Air Jordan Spiz’ike is another Jordan Brand shoe that sees greater love from the younger crowd, but older Jordanheads might slowly grow fond of the hybrid because of these newer colourways – particularly colors from classic Air Jordan models. A solid release date is yet to be made, but these are expected to drop in May of 2010. Be sure to check out Sneaker News Air Jordan Release Dates page to stay up to date on all-things Jordan. via NT.
