As regions known for storied sneaker-culture, the U.S. and Japan share equal influence in the game, albeit in different ends of the spectrum. While the lifestyle shoe has made an intense comeback in the states over the last few years, the leather/suede uppered, minimalistic branded casual shoe has been a staple of Japanese urban fashion for quite some time. Shoe designs like the Nike Toki and the Nike Sabaku are derived from Japanese styling, and the Nike Aina Chukka, shown in our Nike Sportswear 2010 Preview, is no exception. A quick look leaves you zero evidence of Nike fingerprints, but Nike branding can be found on the tongue and heel tab. Other design cues, like the weaved upper and boat-shoe toe structure can be found in other Nike models like the Nike Woven Chukka and Nike Mad Jibe. Looking to change up your rotation? Check out the Nika Aina Chukka; there’s a pre-order available from footwear depot on eBay.
