No matter how many times Michael Jordan will say no, Spike Lee knows “it’s the shoes”, but this time around, it’s Spike’s shoes we’re asking questions about. Spike was spotted in his usual position at Madison Square Garden when the Knicks took on the Sixers Friday night. The decorated film director was wearing a pair of the Grape Air Jordan Spiz’ike, a colorway that won’t release until April 2010. Among the Garden crowd was former Knick Charlie Ward, actor John Turturro, Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsey Vonn, and some former New York baseball greats, so check out pics of Spike Lee and his Grape Spiz’ikes after the jump.

Especially from readers old enough to remember the originals they’re based on, the first few Nike Air Max A Lot colorways met with mixed reviews. The newest Pippen-based mashup is probably the nicest one we’ve seen, going the simple white and metallic silver route. With the two-tone palette, this shoe’s busy sweeping lines are considerably easier on the eyes, and the medial side panels are quite sleek. Proof positive that a colorway can make or break a sneaker, these should be out soon, so stick with Sneaker News for updates. via Taobao

The adidas ZX500 is a classic adidas trainer meant for high mileage on the track. Originally introduced in 1984, the ZX500 was constructed with mesh and suede to minimize weight and maximize breathability, and today the same engineering is in use. This newly released pair features white suede with a light grey mesh toe, with spearmint green trim. Another simple colorway of the classic ZX 500, another win for adidas. Grab a pair from Schuh-You.

The Nike Air Royal Mid takes the one-piece construction to the next level by featuring molded leather with grooves and deep lines to create a silhouette of a fully-stitched piece of footwear. The shoe itself looks like a well-designed sneaker cake, which explains the Nike Air Royal Launch Party and its cake-designing activities. Two colorways of the Royalty Mid – White and Violet Pop – are available now (shipping on the 25th) at LTDOnline.

The adidas Originals Transform Pack releases we saw on Friday took convertible sneakers to a new level. Taking the pack itself to another level? Simple as adding three new pairs of two-kicks-in-one. The new designs include a black Samba TF, whose Micropacer-like tongue snaps off to reveal lava red laces. Next up, the Nizza hightop, whose ankle reinforcements have been removed to allow it to fold down and reveal a pale yellow lining. Last, but certainly not least is a Forum mid whose removable instep strap is extra wide for an almost Air Jordan XX look. Enjoy more shots of those after the jump, plus the Stan Smith 80s and Superstar IIs that are available at Extra Butter NY. via FRESHNESS

As springtime rolls around, your wardrobe is going to shift, and you gotta keep your shoe game up to date. Nike Basketball, Running and Sportswear divisions all have you covered this April with the first set of drops from the Swoosh’s Summer 2010 collection. For on-court use, there’s a white/silver Hyperdunk Low, a home look for the Zoom Kobe V, and the ‘Rasta’ Air Max Hyperize that’s sure to get some play from Lithuania at the upcoming FIBA World Championships in Turkey.
If you’re more of a runner, get one of two new Air Max 2009s: either the Nike+ and Flywire-equipped white and black joints, or the black leather pair with yellow accents. Need something more low profile? Gotcha covered with a super-clean white/black/silver look at the Nike LunarSwift+. Train in those, and run the streets in two new Zoom Toki Mids and an all-white RT-1. There’s even more in the lifestyle department, including the Nike Pepper and Sweet Classic in pictures after the jump, and you can get any (or all if you have DEEEP pockets) from Kicks/HI.

After the one-game playoff between Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Winthrop, the 2010 NCAA March Madness Tournament officially kicked off on Thursday. As usual, the First Round featured a number of bracket-busting upsets while the #1 seeds dominanted in each respective region. Aside from the gameplay, Sneaker News would like to focus on some of the kicks that were seen in on the college hardwood, and we’re excited that there was no upset at all.
The three colorways of the Patent Grey Leather LeBron VII made their debuts, while an oldie in the Air Zoom Generation made an unexpected appearance. Air Jordan held its own as well, as the Hare Jordan VII, Space Jam XI, a Melo M6 designed by a teen, and some great Team Jordan PEs were in play. There’s a lot more to be seen, so check out the collection of images summarizing the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, and stay tuned to Sneaker News as we will recap the kicks from each round of March Madness. via Yahoo!.

The past week was just one big review of mathematics. Lesson one was ‘How to tell time’, as we saw an oversized clock made up of the Air Jordan I-XII from the Collezione Packages. Lesson two? Roman numerals; we received confirmation of upcoming Air Jordan Retros like the Bordeaux VII and Flint XIII. The third lesson was a bit advanced, as the topic was imaginary numbers: We were teased by a silhouette of the not-yet-existent Nike LeBron VIII, although some of the design hints added up. And the longest lesson dealt with basic integers, as classic kicks seeded one through eight were thrown in a cage match in a battle for supremacy. The final exam’s coming up (and it’s cumulative), so use this week’s Weekly Rewind as a study guide and get caught up on all the lessons.

One shoe wasn’t enough to celebrate one of the modern classics of sneaker commercials, so Nike bundled together the Hyperdunk and Zoom Kobe V for the Kobe Bryant x Aston Martin Pack. The gunmetal grey and burgundy look reminds you of the Aston Martin DB9 Kobe ‘jumped’ over in the initial Hyperdunk spot, and if their hot aesthetics weren’t enough, there’s only 500 of these babies in the world! German retailer Kickz.com will have them tomorrow, Saturday, March 20th at 11am local, so call up your Euro-exclusive connects and/or stick with Sneaker News for info on a stateside release.

Tomorrow’s release of the Air Jordan VI Oreo will be a welcome interruption to what’s been a relatively subdued month of March in terms of releases. This latest Air Jordan VI release is all about ‘cookies n’ cream’, meaning a contrast in tastes and textures. The upper is constructed of both leather and nubuck, composed of two colors that define the word “opposite” better than anything else. The Oreo VI will be available tomorrow at select Nike retailers like Extra Butter, or grab a pair now from eBay.

Certain footwear brands have some connections with particular individuals/establishments that have resulted in some nice collaborative productions. Nike has Futura. adidas has Kazuki. New Balance has…all of Europe. This new New Balance collaboration is just the latest of an extensive history of partnerships New Balance has cultivated over the years, and only a select number of these great colorways of classic NB models hit our side of the globe. Check out the Size? x New Balance 577 in two great colorways and materials; the green pair features a plaid inner lining while the black variety features quilted stitching on the upper and a yellow trim. Both pairs feature a special tongue-tag with “577″ in roman numerals (see, it does come in handy). Both pairs should hit Size? soon. via f5tofresh.

One-fourth of this year is almost behind us, with April and its seasonal showers right around the corner, so check out the four new SBs that Nike has in store for us. Two great colorways of the Nike SB Blazer arrives, with one in a matte silver upper with a textured obsidian swoosh and red NIKE print on the heel, and another black colorway that are similar to the Nike SB Dunk High ‘Fog’. Speaking of Dunks, a Dunk Low in another patriotic red-white-blue colorway is expected, with a Dark Army SB Classic releasing alongside. The aforementioned April 2010 SB releases are available early at Flatspot.
