As the sneaker culture continues, we’ll be witnessing some of our older pairs literally dissolve away. We’ve already seen a few pairs succumb to time, but this one might hit even closer to home as the Jordan V Fire Reds are undoubtedly one of the all-time Jordan greats. Looking at this ’99 retro compared to the more recent CDP version, you can see just what 10 years can do to a shoe. Not only is the footbed no longer sturdy, but the wear of the leather and severe yellowing of the medial panel and sole are quite evident as well. Just image what the condition of an OG pair would be like. As usual, the worst of the damage is done to the midsole, cracking and crumbling with every touch and handle. While you look at these in grief, have a moment of silence for the fallen. via Kenlu

wow..this really sux..i hope they were ds..were these wrapped in plastic like the other pairs?
April 30th, 2010 at 5:44 am
That HAS to be from wrapping or air locking because that deterioration looks atleast 30 years old lol. OMG my favorite AJ in pieces. Natural aging couldn't do that, that shoe looks like it hopped in the HOT TUB TIME MACHINE to 2040 lol

THIS GUY MUST HAVE PLAYED SOCCER WITH THESE FOR THEM TO TURN OUT LIKE THAT.

STOP WASTING SHOES…I KNOW THESE ARE UNWEARABLE, BUT THEY ARE STILL HEAT AND CAN BE DISPLAYED…EVEN THOUGH A PERSON MIGHT ARGUE THAT IT DOESN'T MATTER, HOW CAN YOU SIT IN YOUR OFFICE WITH OG J'S AND BASICALLY KILL THEM. everyone knows, they are unwearable and useless, but that is no reason to rip off the sole and make them undesireable. So if you had some og KOs or some OG IIIs, and they were "beat" and the sole was cracking, you would just mess them up even more? They are rare and unreplaceable, please don't tell me "oh I can just buy the retroes" Retroes aren't the same. FInding and having the OGs, make them that much desireable and give the sneakerhead that much more satisfaction and pride out of his or her find. RETROES KILLED THE GAME.. BY THE WAY, 2000 Vs don't get that messed up unless you purposely did something, otherwise all DS 2000s and previous would have cracking and this is not the case. I want you to get some Xs (Chicago) and "dissect them" please, I want to see if you can stand to see a "sneaker" go to pieces. Go on do it., I bet you can't.
April 30th, 2010 at 6:38 am
those are from countdown pack, not from 2000….
April 30th, 2010 at 6:40 am
OH and earlier you said "we do this to provide advice on restoring the shoes" where is it then? THERE IS NO POINT IN DISSOLVING SHOES…..you might as well take a pair of tiffs, skate them, and then "dissolve" them. I don't think you could. Or maybe, you can because you have all the money you could ever want and you can just buy them at your will. F*ck people like you, be a real collector and struggle to get the money to buy heat. Maybe then you will appreciate what you have. WHO KNOWS IF THOSE "REPLACEMENT Vs" are from the countdown pack? they are, they are no replacement for the all ready unreplaceable OGs, The 2000s are probably one of the few retroes that actually worked.
April 30th, 2010 at 7:05 am

Yea were these draped in plastic
April 30th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
It look like he wore them for awhile and then shrink-wrapped them.
April 30th, 2010 at 4:18 pm
I agree with Maserati. Look at the lack of creases – he didn't wear that shoe too often.
April 30th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
I started buying retros in 2008. (Hey, I finally have the finances to buy what I like – don't judge me!) I started with the XI/XII Countdown Package and continued buying more. That pack is now 18 months old and still looks like I just bought them.
I suggest staying away from clumsy people, rain, and snow.
I also suggest using Clorox Wipes for gentle clean.
Keep the original boxes and wrapping paper.
Clean and store after every wear.
I wear all of my kicks all the time and none of them yellow or crack. Take care of your kicks and they'll take care of you!
April 30th, 2010 at 4:48 pm
Grow up, you bunch of babies. It's just a rancid shoe that someone wore the crap out of. No use crying about it. It's not like they're yours, and it's ESPECIALLY not like these are the only ones in existance. Stop bitching. By the way, nice maturity level here on sneakernews. Again, grow up.
April 30th, 2010 at 4:56 pm
Yo I wonder what would happen if you ate all those crumbs? Would you shit out a fresh new sole?
April 30th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
Preach on brotha….we in the same boat. if i put a pair on and the soles even touch concrete there gettin cleaned as soon as they come off my foot.then back in the box.
April 30th, 2010 at 6:54 pm
I see what you are saying and I agree, but I just don't see the gain from purposely destroying kicks
April 30th, 2010 at 6:55 pm

i must say if this happens to the OG's then imagine what will be of the retro's
April 30th, 2010 at 5:06 pm
I have to disagree with the display point.
Earlier this week, there was a breakdown of the Black/Olive Xs and they showed the shoe while it was still shrink-wrapped and you can see it breaking down inside the plastic.
The sides of these Vs show them looking sad before being lifted apart.
April 30th, 2010 at 5:55 pm
Man that sucks let me start wearing all my jordans now
April 30th, 2010 at 10:22 pm

May 1st, 2010 at 6:46 pm
18 months is nothing. Ive had shoes that i wore for 3 years straight, rain, snow, soccer w.e. and they still looked good. All those shoes were adidas or dc. Got a pair of V's from 06, wore them for 2 months and the paint started chipping. Quality sucks on most jordans nowadays.

how the fuck did that happen
May 15th, 2010 at 2:12 am
My first experience with this was when i found a pair of retro pegasus with an infrared swoosh in my size from some old head who was getting rid of a bunch of shoes. Midsole just fell apart when i rocked them. Very bad feeling as a sneakerhead…

August 19th, 2010 at 2:13 am
Well people, You see what happens if you collect shoes and don’t wear them. i rather wear them and end up looking like this than spend large mounts of money, just to sit them in the closet and waste away like this. waste of time and money lol
