Nike as we know it today traces its roots back to Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman’s Blue Ribbon Sports. BRS was founded in 1964 and released a soccer model dubbed ‘Nike’ in ’71, but it wasn’t until 1978 that BRS, Inc. officially changed its name to Nike, Inc. In the process of redefining itself, Nike redefined athletic footwear and apparel and are celebrating by bringing in, you guessed it: 78 creatives from a variety of disciplines to create NIKE78. For each of these collaborators, their challenge is to, again, redefine Nike footwear, but in an artistic sense, to be displayed during September’s London Design Festival.
