Jay-Z played a considerable part in the World Basketball Festival that recently wrapped up after a successful four-day showing. S-dot-Carter’s live performance on the Opening Night of the World Basketball Festival was one to remember but his collaboration with Nike, the Jay-Z x Nike Air Force 1 ‘All Black Everything’, is already shaping up to be one of the all-time sneaker classics. Using the All Black Everything theme, Jay-Z was left to hand-select the materials to go on five pairs of HOV’ed-out All-Black Air Force 1 Lows, with each pair representing the five participating teams of the World Basketball Festival.
Ponyhair, perforated leather, suede, patent leather, and other premium materials were used to construct this blacked-out quintet and each pair was put up for auction on eBay, will all of the proceeds going towards Jay-Z’s ‘Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund’. Are you willing to pony up to cash or interested in seeing how much each limited pair will sell for? Let us know which pair you’d pay an arm and a leg for and check out all of the Jay-Z x Nike Air Force 1 Auction Cause eBay listings.

The Nike Possession Justified is an all-new shoe that takes inspiration from basketball shoes of the past; peep the Chuck Taylor-esque sole and the retro-style high cut. The Possession Justified actually started off a Euro-release Womens shoe by Nike Sportswear, but for the Holiday season, it looks like a mens version will arrive as well. The design on the upper (particularly the outrigger and heel) may remind you of the Nike Air Tech Challenge series but obviously, this shoe is aimed for lifestyle fashion rather than sports performance. Take another look after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for more release and colorway info. via Colmilludo.

A pretty drastic design shift will take place with the 2011 that’s right around the corner, but the Nike Air Max 2010 still has some of its best colorways ahead of it. Here’s one new colorway each for men and ladies, both of which share a common colorblocking pattern. On the men’s side of things, Anthracite and Volt look great with just a touch of white in between, while the womens model goes with a lighter shade of grey and Red Plum on the accents. Take a look at more shots of Nike’s flagship running shoe after the jump and grab a pair today from Kix-Files.

Rune Glifberg will go down as one of the greatest skaters of all time and one of the few to reach the peak of both street and vert excellence. It was a quiet coup when Converse Skateboarding signed Glifberg last year, with Rune’s new sneaker sponsor largely overshadowed by Eric Koston’s move to Nike SB. Here’s the first shot back from CONS, the Rune Pro Mid, which is somewhere between the Cooldige Mid and the Weapon series. New pairs in black or white, blue and red both mix canvas and suede skillfully and you can see more shots of both after the jump. Let us know which ones you prefer and grab a pair from CrookedTongues.

Recently Sneaker News gave you a look at the impressive Li-Ning F2 Lift Off Basketball shoe as well as the Li-Ning F2 Runner. Here’s a look at yet another upcoming Li-Ning product from the signature line of its marquee basketball endorsee, Baron Davis. The BD Doom Low features a casual silhouette with patent leather and perforated uppers, the Beardman logo on the tongue, and the BD letterman logo on a small tab on the sidewall. The newly updated Li-Ning logo also graces the upper, sitting right above red contrast-stitched panels. Of course, the color combination of white, red, and royal blue is that of Davis’ Los Angeles Clippers. Take a look at this new Li-Ning shoe after the jump and let us know what you think. via hoopchina.

Nike’s Innovation Kitchen has set the standard in performance footwear for decades, and the introduction of ‘Free’ technology was definitely a sharp left turn from Nike’s bread and butter, which at the time of Free’s debut, was Zoom Air and Max Air. Free features neither of the two, but instead opts for a super-flexible light-on-your-feet feel – some of you might remember the displays at retail stores featuring the Nike Free curled up into a ball, emphasizing the grooved sole. The Nike Free TR features the same suspension but now features a Flywire outrigger instead of the classic fore-foot strap and a slightly higher cut; this new colorway of the all-purpose Free TR just dropped at Nikestore so check out the detailed shots after the jump.

Anyone older than 2 or younger than 72 rocking a pair of kicks with five velcro straps is crazy enough, but this new Nike Blazer AC High takes it two steps further. Not only is the Seaweed/Volt colorway an eye-catching high contrast palette, but the addition of tiny perforations all along the side panels will make you take a second look. It’s hard to think of another mostly black shoe that’s looked ‘brighter’ than these, and if you like the style, they’re available now from select Nike Sportswear retailers including Atlanta GA’s Wish.

“The profits are high while the penalties are low.”
That’s the central point around the reason behind counterfeiting kicks; fakes bring in the cash and getting caught will get you a slap on the wrist. Nicholas Schmidle, a journalist for the New York Times, embarked on an investigative journey digging into the importation and manufacturing of the world’s most counterfeited item – the sneaker. Schmidle visited a fake-factory in Putian, China, managed by a man named Lin, who in the eyes of sneakerheads, reads like one of the many Bernie Madoffs of the footwear industry. According to Lin, as long as the demand for sneakers is there, the demand for fakes will follow suit. The counterfeiting business – while illegal – is viewed as an everyday job in Putian; wanted-ads are posted publicly and people accept the jobs fully aware of the nature of the employment.
How does Lin and all other factory managers make counterfeits so well? Nike employees in its China-based factories were bribed for sample models or blueprints, and some went as far as throwing a fresh pair over the Nike factory wall, into the hands of a counterfeiter looking to make a few-thousand pairs of Air Force 1s or Tiempos or shoes that haven’t even released yet. With heightened security and penalty for such infractions, the factory managers simply walk into a store and buy a single pair of the newest items, only to be taken apart and relentlessly cloned into a lower-quality product. There’s a lot more to read so check out the full feature on NYTimes and check out the real vs. fake comparison shots after the jump.

With the World Basketball Festival coming to a close, Sneaker News can now focus on daily reports on kicks, and this week was no slouch! First up was a rumor regarding another Air Jordan V package. Staying on the JB side of things, we brought you a look at the upcoming Air Jordan 1 Armor (with Foam!) as well as a Jordan x Air Max sample worn by Mark Smith. Following up on our coverage of the Air Jordan ‘FTLOTG’ Laser Collection from last week, we brought you a detailed look at AJ1 to AJ13. Some more eye candy came in the form of old-school footage, as Sneaker News compiled some rare images of NBA superstars past and present wearing Air Jordan heat, but kept you in with the new as we brought you images from the 2010 NBA Rookie Class photo shoot.
One of the bigger stories of this summer was the Foamposite x Air Force 1, but looks like a second colorway is on the way. Speaking of upcoming releases, Sneaker News brought you an exclusive look at the black/grey/volt color-combo of the soon-to-release Nike Zoom Huarache TR Mid, and we also confirmed a curious Kobe sample to be Mr. Mamba’s sixth signature shoe. Adidas, Vans, and Converse made some noise on the skate side of things by introducing their upcoming line, but it was Nike SB that stole the show as notable team members shredded a converted Rucker Park and partied in Lower Manhattan to celebrate P-Rod’s fourth sig. Summer vacation’s about to come to an unfortunate close so take a quick break from preparing for the school year and check out this week’s Sneaker News.

The Tecate was flowing and the mood was cheery, as friends of Paul Rodriguez and Nike SB gathered Thursday night at Nike Stadium on Bowery to celebrate the launch of P-Rod’s fourth signature shoe, the Nike SB P-Rod IV. Paul Rodriguez, Eric Koston, Theotis Beasley, Daniel LeBron, and other Nike SB riders were there to support their fellow teammate as were celebs and notables DJ Clark Kent, Gucci Mane, Lil’ Kim, and Stash, but the mood was more ‘catching up with old pals while throwing down some brews’ than anything else.
It’s been over a half a decade since P-Rod joined Nike SB and his fourth shoe might be the most rider-specific to date; the P-Rod IV features an extra-breathable mesh tongue (P-Rod’s got sweaty feet), a toe with better grip, and two-piece dual density sidewall, and a siped outsole with flex grooves, all of which that combines to fit P-Rod’s exact needs. The event space itself – Nike Stadium on Bowery to be exact – was transformed into P-Rod and Nike SB central, with a ton of wall displays and Nas’ poem lyrics printed on the wall, with a makeshift stage at the far corner for Gucci Mane’s performance. Check out the gallery of images of the P-Rod IV Launch Party after the jump and let us know what you think of the design of this new shoe.
