The Nike Dunk will live on forever but the age-old construction used for the Nike SB Dunk may be on its last breath. With plans of a completely changed construction of the Nike SB Dunk for 2011, Nike performed a post-mortem examination of the Nike SB Dunk, pointing out the possible causes of “death”, and using those points of focus, the 2011 Nike SB Dunk will be better than ever. With a Phylon midsole for better impact protection, a cored outsole for a lighter package, and a new tread pattern for better grip, the Nike SB Dunk will certainly be the best skate shoe it could possibly be. A change might have been due, because the SB Dunk of old was merely a Zoom-cushioned, tongue-fattened version of the classic basketball shoe. Check out the video as well as the image still after the jump and let us know what you expect in terms of comfort/performance from the Nike SB Dunk.

I'd love to have a job like that. Doing autospy on shoes. A "Shoe Physician".

i have to say i was let down by this post/title. first thing i thought of was how other articles had the Jordans that were crumbling and SN would disect those, im sure me and some others thought this is what we would get. nice article tho, sounds like some good changes will be made and im interested on seeing how it will feel/look redesigned.

They are a company listed in the stock exchange with shareholders to appeal.
I for one am not offended by the new changes. If it weren't for technology we'd still be wearing leather sandals.

Yes yes yes!!! please make the dunk with a vulcanized sole because its already a good skate shoe but it will be even better this way, less weight, vulcanized sole, all we need

Hey Nike SB why don't you take the Air Force 1's and maybe some 90s Flight joints if MJ won't let you own the III's and the IV's. What you wanna do is put all sorts of new stuff in them for skaters and then get some 14 year old kids to say only skaters can wear these monstrosities. Then announce that every basketball shoe Nike has made aspires to be some skate shoe for kids.
Don't forget that your shit was made on the streets and the courts.

Dude who really gives a shit? I never understand why people get caught up on the past; Nike established a skating sector in their corporation, made a skate shoe that did not appeal to all skaters but got some level of respect, now they are just trying to make the shoe better. Move forward with your life because clearly they did.
Keep rocking your AF'1s and 90 flights; reminiscing of your youth days. We'll continue to accept what technologically better. Can't stay in the past if you want to move toward the future.

I, for one, am interested in picking up the red mids just to try em out. New outsole looks super promising; just a shame they couldn't blend this new sole with a vulc. That's be sick.
