Nike Designer Eric Avar Discusses the Zoom Kobe VI

“[Kobe Bryant] originally said, ‘I want the lowest, lightest basketball shoe ever.’”

The Nike Zoom Kobe VI is set to launch later this week and the latest Kobe Bryant signature from Nike Basketball represents years of refinement.  2008 saw the Zoom Kobe 4 break what was once thought to be a cardinal rule of basketball sneaker ankle support with Kobe choosing a soccer style cut because, as Nike designer Eric Avar relays, “[Soccer players] do all the same movements I do, and they’re always in a lowtop.”  Avar divulges further improvements in the latest Zoom Kobe shoe including a lower, lighter sole design with Zoom Air cushioning and a dual-layer memory foam insole, and you can’t forget the ZK6′s black mamba-nispired scaly upper.  Click through to see a full video of Eric Avar discussing the Nike Zoom Kobe 6 and stick with Sneaker News for upcoming release dates.

ive said this before but you actually have a lesser chance of twisting or spraining your ankle barefoot. The human body has evolved to make our feet stronger and faster. Shoes work against the natural motions of our feet which makes the chances of injuries higher. The reason we wear shoes is because we have created a hostile environment for our feet with things such as pavement, cement, broken glass, sharp trash and other crap. Your calves do a much better job at "cushioning" your feet then any zoom bag ever will. Just something to think about.

    gotta get a pair

Yeah.. shoes have been over built for the last 30 yrs. There is no way to avoid and ankle sprain. The best ways are to work on your flexibility around your ankle and in general just strengthen your foot muscles. When shoes are over built and reduce natural ankle rotation in an effort to reduce an ankle sprain..theres a chance that the next thing to go is your knees.

If your going to build a high top… make it deconstructed if anything…In the meantime.. work on your foot and leg muscles.

This is 65$ Nike technology AT THE MOST!
My LeBron 8's were squeaking after (minus) 10 pick-up games with the toe coming apart..

Gone are the days when your OG AJ7's would last 2 basketball seasons in the Northeast rain/snow/mud primarily used as brakes for your Dyno/Haro/GT.

Now they're made out of recycled packing peanuts…

personally i think the best basketball shoe for your feet is the dunk. Pretty thin sole and the upper isnt overbuilt. To make it better nike should take out the ankle support in the back (the plastic peice in the heel) and make panels like the top of the toebox out of mesh, as with the tongue and the side panels. Maybe make the midsole even thinner and add sizes for wide feet and such things.

Nice, but i feel like i would break my anke tryna play ball in those.

    fuck snakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Nate Says:

You cant take off the plastic part of the heel, thats what makes up the ankle support for the low top shoe. And it is already proven by science, the height of the shoe does not determine the strength of the ankle support but it is the fit and lockdown the shoe provides to your ankle. Thus the plastic piece in the heel.
