Jordan CP3.IV – Media Unveiling | Event Recap

As you may have already seen yesterday on Sneaker News, Jordan Brand rolled out Chris Paul’s new CP3.IV model at a media event held at the New Orleans Arena. Those in attendance were taken through back hallways of the stadium and eventually led to the away team locker room, which for the day was converted into the home base for the CP3.IV introduction. Each member of the media entered to find a locker equipped with their name and a full stock of CP3 gear, including of course, a fresh new pair of Chris Paul’s upcoming fourth Jordan signature model. After suiting up for some surprise activities, the man himself, CP3 was introduced and sat down alongside the event’s host and the shoe’s designer, Jayson Mayden sitting in via Skype on a large flatscreen. Despite his recent departure from the Jordan Brand design team to pursue higher education at Stanford University, it was clear that his love for the project and friendship with Chris Paul made it no imposition to eagerly participate in the Q&A session.

Immediately, it became evident that, in addition to collaborating on the Jordan CP3 shoes, Mayden and Chris Paul have a tight personal relationship that translates into the design of the shoes. They got right into some of the back story of the new shoe, which according to Mayden (an avid toy collector) was loosely inspired by a Gundam-type figure that he came across on a visit to Asia. Another interesting piece of info came out as well, as Paul described how the idea to go with a lower silhouette on the CP3.IV came directly from Michael Jordan himself, who told Paul that as a lightning quick guard, he should look to explore more of a low-cut shoe. It was also revealed that there are some subtle design elements of the shoe inspired by the Air Jordan XIII, one of Paul’s all-time favorites. Chris also added that one of his all-time sneaker regrets was that he had an OG pair of XIII’s that was stolen from his school locker as a kid, so the nod to the shoe may help to fill the void of a traumatic memory that many of us have had the misfortune of experiencing.

A few times during the Q&A, Mayden made reference to Chris being a “motorcycle amongst cars.” With nearly unrivaled speed and agility on the floor, Chris Paul is able to weave in and out of spots and change directions at high speeds, and his shoes are specifically engineered to support that style of play. After getting the lowdown on the features and story behind the shoe, it was time to take them out for a test-drive as we hit the arena floor to compete in a recreated version of the NBA Skills Challenge that CP3 has been an All-Star weekend participant in three of the last five years. Media was tested on their shooting, dribbling and passing skills and timed for speed, creating some exciting competition between media members, as well as some laughable moments on almost everyone’s part. Keep reading for a look at the scene down in NOLA, and of course, some more pics of the CP3.IV, hitting Jordan retailers next month.

Air Jordan XIII (13) Retro – ‘Bulls’ | Release Reminder

Officially arriving tomorrow, December 18th, is the Air Jordan XIII in White, Black, and Varsity Red. This marks the second adult-sized Air Jordan XIII release of the month and the fourth overall for 2010 (if you haven’t been counting, it’s the Air Jordan XIII Premio, Flints, Altitudes, and these babies). As mentioned before on numerous occasions, the ‘Bulls’ XIII Retro is a true retro in that this colorway was never re-issued in its original state. With the Cool Grey XI release just a week away, some of you may be reticent with this purchase, but don’t make the same mistake twice (who here passed on the White/Red XII’s last year?). These will be available at Jordan Brand retailers like EXIT 36 but you can also pick up a pair now on eBay.

Nike LeBron 8 ‘Home’ Available @ House of Hoops

The Miami Heat take their scorching 10-game winning streak into New York tonight in the second of two of the biggest games Madison Square Garden has seen in years.  NBA Feet has seen LeBron James rocking black sneakers during road games so don’t expect to see these in the game but the Nike LeBron 8 ‘Home’ just became available at House of Hoops.  Nicknamed ‘Un-China’ for its resemblance to the ‘other’ white/red LeBron 8s, these joints offer a different look primarily thanks to some thick ‘piping’ lines around the Flywire areas as well as an extra red layer on the midsole.  Have a closer look by clicking on the jump below then grab yours from any HoH location nationwide, but be advised that both Foot Locker and Eastbay will also have these available at midnight in their respective online stores.

Packer Shoes x Reebok Pump Omni Zone ‘Nique’ Launch Recap

While Dominique Wilkins may not have been in the house this time for the release of the Packer Shoes x Reebok ‘Nique’ Pump sequel, that didn’t seem to stop anyone from coming down to cop their pair and show support. It was clear that after last year’s super-limited Pump 20 version, people out in the sneaker world were seriously feeling the concept and thrilled to see Nique get some long overdue signature shoe love. Numbered at 441 pairs (Wilkins’ jersey #21 x 21 years of the Pump), there were more to go around this time, but they were moving off the shelves on Tuesday as if they were just as limited as last time. Between the in-store and online sale, nearly the whole run sold out in a day along with the accompanying Vandal-A t-shirt, but if you might still be able to find a pair of the Niques in your size, so if you missed out, hit up Packer Shoes before they clear out for good. Keep reading for a look at the highlights from the release, and be sure to peep what quickly became the talk of the day – a red version of the shoe spotted on the feet of a member of the Packer crew. It’s looking like the eye-catching red edition might be for friends and family only, as quantities and availability are still somewhat of a mystery. Check out a cell phone pic that someone snapped after the jump and stay tuned for more on that intriguing development coming soon.

(IN)DECOROUS TASTE x Nike (I)D Shoe V2.0

Sneakerheads are on average far more fashion conscious than your average joe but we still probably need to offer a bit of background for this one to come into full view.  For those of you who aren’t frequent readers, (IN)DECOROUS TASTE is self-described as “Two parts documentation of the artistic process, one part images that interest . . . Authored by a 20-something with a more-is-more philosophy and a penchant for Bennison, bikers, lavish old interiors, rock crystal and rock stars.”

So Nike Trend and Energy Director Kristin Reiter got up with (I)D’s Lauren Tennenbaum and asked her to rebuild a sneaker.  Kristin said she wanted something along the lines of Lauren’s absolutely nutso spike heel and so she came up with something else to manifest the blog’s tagline, “What is good taste anyway?”  So how does a pair of Nike+ WMNS runners turn into one heel clicker of a red sequened wedge?  That’s a question for the Wizard of Oz himself, but we do have a photo summary of the process that follows your click on the jump below.

The trio of premium materials offers the ‘lux’ appeal as it sits on top of an all-white midsole for an even more crisp-and-clean look. Nike Air Max Hyperdunk 2010 – Al Horford Hawks Home PE | Available @ HoH

Al Horford’s part of that crop of NBA big-men – those nearly 7-foot behemoths with the size to bang down low but with the agility of a small forward. These new-age power forwards have taken over the league and since coming out of Florida, Al Horford’s numbers have been going up-up-up and will continue to do so as he will help carry the torch once guys like Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett hang it up for good. Here’s a look at what Al Horford’s been wearing lately at Home – the Air Max Hyperdunk 2010. The classic navy, red, and white Atlanta uniforms transfer well on all sneakers and this Hyperdunk 2010 is no exception. Want these? Check out House of Hoops now because they’ve just become available.

Nike SB Dunk High ‘Waterproof’ – Available on eBay

There are some parts of this country where the winter season expresses itself not through snow and freezing temps, but rather month after month of grey, rainy days.  And even if you’re dealing with a light snow, you can still turn to this new Nike SB Dunk High.  An entirely black construction, these joints come with a GoreTex-like waterproof upper plus suede Swooshes, itself something of an ironic statement from a shoe whose main added performance benefit precludes participation in the sport for which it was reengineered.  We can’t condone skating in the rain, but missing this pair of black beauties is equally ill advised, so grab your pair now from shoejocky on eBay.

Jordan Brand Signs LaMarr Woodley of Pittsburgh Steelers

Jordan Brand recently expanded its roster of top-shelf athletes by adding Pittsburgh Steelers star Outside Linebacker to its roster of athletes. The fourth-year pro is enjoying a fine season helping out the hard-hitting Steeler defense, as his 8.5 sacks and 2 INTs (one of them returned for a score) have been pivotal in maintaining Pittsburgh’s stranglehold as the best run-D in the league. Will we see Air Jordan PE cleats like we’ve seen on Terrell Owens? Perhaps that might happen somewhere down the line, but in the meantime, you can see LaMarr wearing these Steeler-specific Jordan cleats. Who else in the NFL would you like to see on Jordan Brand? Let us know after the jump.
