Sneaker News Fantasy Basketball: Week 16 Recap

It’s official: Sneaker News is in a rut. Not nearly as bad as the one a certain Cleveland sports team endured, but Week 16 resulted in another loss – the third defeat in a row. A convincing 1-7-1 loss against TeamTITS left the Sneaker News front office no choice but to change up the roster, as both James Harden and Mike Bibby were sent packing for the high-flying Demar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors and Ramon Sessions of Cleveland Cavaliers. With three big-time contributors still on the sideline with injury (Amare Stoudemire, Eric Gordon, and Emeka Okafor), does Sneaker News have what it takes to bounce back from this slump and rise up the ranks in the FLuD Watches “Barksdale & Bell” fantasy basketball league?  This week’s match-up with sixth-place ORISUE should determine that. Stay tuned to Sneaker News to see where Team Sneaker News ends up next week!

TEAM SNEAKERNEWS WEEK 16 MVP
David West – Three monstrous games, one of which included a monstrous 32 point, 17 rebound performance, were the lone highlights for Team Sneaker News this week – enough to make Mr. West the Week 16 MVP.

THIS WEEK’S ADD/DROPS
IN: DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors, SG/SF), Ramon Sessions (Cleveland Cavaliers, PG/SG)
OUT: Mike Bibby (Atlanta Hawks, PG), James Harden ( Oklahoma City Thunder, SG)

Nike Super Cortez – Vintage Sample From 1974

The Nike Super Cortez appears like a simple Nike running shoe from the 70′s (then again, so did all other Nike designs). The bellied swoosh, flat white leather, and layered midsole is the type of vintage styling that hipsters today dream of, but what sets the Super Cortez apart is that it never actually released. The original Cortez of 1974 didn’t have the textured rubberized toe-cap, and this Super Cortez doesn’t feature any branding on the heel. Shoes like these aren’t just collector items, but museum pieces, and that is reflected in the final bidding price for this shoe when it was a live auction. This is a true piece of history, so take a look at the gallery of images of this rare Nike Super Cortez below and check out the final price from the auction by swoosh26.2 on eBay.

Solemart Eindhoven – Event Recap

Eindhoven in The Netherlands was the next stop for Solemart, the traveling sneaker buy/sell/trade summit, as countless sneaker junkies in the area showed up to dish kicks. The sneaker game overseas is completely different from that of the U.S., so don’t expect to see any Jordans, Kobes, or LeBrons, but what you will find is a sick gathering of Air Max runners and other trainers from various brands. Quite possibly the sickest ‘Feet’ appearance of the event was a pair of custom, home-made Nike Air Mags (also known as the McFlys), but you’d better believe there was a lot more to see! Check out this quick recap and video below and head to SneakerFreaker for the full feature.

Nike Air PR1 – Black – Dark Grey – Aqua | Available

Its re-release last year contemporary with the Air Yeezy and Reebok’s Pump 20th Anniversary celebration, the Nike Air PR1 finds itself pressured to completely represent the Swoosh with this latest colorway.  This new edition keeps the Air Pressure’s signature inflation valve (Insta Pump, anyone?) but by using the ‘Tiffany’ colorway and having its black base split between nubuck and Elephant print, these joints are closest to a pair of RT1s that dropped some eighteen months ago.  Click through to get a better look and grab the aqua Air PR1 from Caliroots.

Celebrity Feet: Pharrell Williams – Nike LeBron 8 – ‘South Beach’

While on tour in Dubai, N.E.R.D’s frontman broke out his ‘South Beach’ sneakers once again. The last time we saw Skateboard P in these LeBron’s was last month in Indonesia but it seems that Pharrell has taken a strong liking to these Pre Heat LeBron 8′s that some would argue was the best sneaker of 2010. Joining Pharrell, Shae, and Chad on stage was up and coming artist Mike Posner who recently released a remix of his new single, “Bow Chicka Bow Wow”, with Lil Wayne, Posner showed up wearing a pair of the ‘Cool Grey’ Air Jordan XI’s that were released at the end of last year. Let us know who you think had the better sneakers after the jump. via Billionaire Boys Club Blog

UNDFTD x adidas Originals Forum Mid – NBA All Star 2011

The NBA All Star Game has always been a pivotal moment in the sneakerhead calendar.  From the years when we’ve seen new Air Jordan models and colorways debut to the ever increasing number of tie-in releases, you can count on the ASG as both an impetus to and showcase for tons of new basketball (-inspired) sneakers.  And this year with big Hollywood names coming to join in on the hoopla, it’s only natural to invite LA-based streetwear giant and collaborator extraordinaire, UNDEFEATED, to get involved.  The UNDFTD x adidas Forum Mid is an extension of a pack of NBA All Star Forums we saw a couple weeks back, its black, pouch-enhanced design the neutral equivalent to a vulc-soled East edition.  In addition to the Jerry West star insignia on the lateral ankles, you’ll find UNDFTD’s five strikes on the insole and they’ll be available at select retailers this Saturday, February 19th.  via HB

Nike Air Go LWP – White – Varsity Royal – Black | March 2011

Nike introduced the Nike Air Go in 1994, touting ‘Lightweight Performance’ cushioning which would later be named ‘Zoom’. ‘Lightweight Performance’ has pretty much been the dominant theme for Nike Basketball for decades, and with shoes like the Nike Hyperfuse and Zoom Kobe VI, the Swoosh is always pushing the ‘lighter is better’ motto to the edge. Seen on the feet of the NBA’s quick and the dead(ly) like Penny Hardaway, Jason Kidd, and Tim Hardaway, the Air Go LWP is certainly a classic from the 90′s, which is why many of you basketball fans during John Tesh’s NBA on NBC days (or those that remember the Penny On Air commercial) were ecstatic to see the LWP make a comeback in ’10. Arriving this March is another original colorway of White/Varsity Royal-Black, so take a look at this detailed gallery below and watch for these to hit Nike Basketball retailers next month. via SoleCollector.

Nike SB has partnered up with Dom Deluca and the Brooklyn Projects crew for a special colorway of the Nike SB Dunk High. Set to arrive this Summer 2011, this SB Dunk High collaboration with the West-Coast based riding team and retailer entails use of a denim-like material, with what appears to be navy blue and purple tones on the colorway. Not much else can be determined from this teaser, so take another look below and let us know what your guesses are for this upcoming collaborative release, and be sure to stay tuned to Sneaker News for more information. via N-SB.

Nike Zoom Huarache TR Mid Amare Stoudemire Knicks PE

Gilbert’s got grapes (and aquas, and True Blues, and…), Ray Ray’s got XIIIs, but the most slept on NBA Feet of the entire season is easily the Nike Zoom Huarache TR Mid worn by New York Knicks superstar Amare Stoudemire. What’ a Nike Training shoe doing on an NBA court? Well, the Huarache TR Mid is just THAT comfortable of a shoe; it’s extremely lightweight (thanks, Torch), it’s extremely well cushioned (thanks, Zoom), and its incredible build just sums up why the Zoom Huarache TR Mid was one of the thirty best sneakers of 2010 (according to Sneaker News). There isn’t a single shoe in which orange-and-blue doesn’t look bad, and STAT’s Knicks PE might have you committing heinous crimes just to get a pair. Best part is, Stoudemire loves the broken-in feeling because he wears the same pair for every game, as you can clearly see the wear and tear from posterizing poor fools on a nightly basis. We’re certain there will be absolute pandemonium if these ever released in the New York area, but since that is unlikely, you’ll just have to settle for the Florida or Boise State Pro Combat colorways. In the meantime, check out this nice multi-angle viewing of STAT’s Huarache TR Mid below and let us know what you think. via Complex.

Comme des Garçons PLAY x Converse Jack Purcell March 2011

Here’s a closer look at a collaborative project we previewed last week here on Sneaker News, the Comme des Garçons PLAY x Converse capsule for spring 2011.  That post focused on a pair of cream colored canvas Converse Jack Purcells but it turns out four different editions are on the way.  There are now two each of the ‘natural’ canvas and black leather, each duo of which is in turn divided into one pair with a red heart logo and another with a black/white contrast.  Click through to see all four pairs and look for these along with some Comme des Garcons x Converse Chuck Taylors at select retailers this March.

Dwight Howard x adidas Basketball: Fast World

Dwight Howard is an absolute beast in the paint, touting five All-Star Game appearances and two consecutive Defensive Player of the Year Awards. Perhaps his success stems from the fact that he sees the world in a completely different light. Dwight Howard is known to be a friendly, playful guy, as he’s always dancing it up on court and hitting up the millions of followers on his Twitter, but perhaps it’s the lightweight performance of his adidas Basketball signature shoes that allow him to elevate into the ‘Fast World’. Check out this visually stimulating adidas Basketball video featuring Dwight Howard after the jump and get a taste of what it’s like to live in the adidas Basketball Fast World.
