For a brand known for its no-nonsense performance runners and having no celebrity endorsers, the above pictured release is quite the departure for New Balance. But when you collaborate with Toshizaku Iwaya, the man behind audacious Japanese fashion albel DRESSCAMP to design a shoe, you’re asking for avant garde. Check out this new DRESSCAMP x New Balance hightop, a model somewhere between ’80s basketball and typical NB trail running fare, but done in an insane marbled red leather. These seem like a perfect transition from simple, tonal looks into what we expect will be a resurrection of bolder colorways in the coming months, but would you wear ‘em? via SF//ZOZO

adidas Originals just released a Stan Smith Lite Zip that allows you to enter the shoe without untying its laces, but here’s a different take on the zipper addition. With the adidas Originals Stan Smith II ‘Stay Hot’, the zipper is little more than a visual feature, placed on the top of the tongue over a street sign-esque embroidered tag. This yellow accent blends nicely with a woolen burgundy upper plus navy blue on the laces, lining and sole. Is this a model you must purchase or something that’s better saved for a winter release? Click through to see more and look for these soon at select Three Stripes retailers. via mita sneakers

Remember that diamond-like WMNS Air Max 90 we showed you last week? The one with the black-on-black tongue tag? Well, apparently that’s a sign of things to come from Nike Sportswear, as this new Nike Dunk Low for women has popped up with the same look. It fits well with the tonal red + white leather design and has us wondering if blacked out tags are the new pink-n-shrink. Whether this signifies a unified pack or some other distinction is a mystery but it’s very clear that these are a strong enough effort to break out the calculator (add 1.5 to get your size in mens). Click through to see more and grab these today from Kicks-Crew.

It’s common for Nike Sportswear to issue holiday-themed colorways, even several per, but it’s equally UNcommon to see the same style carried over from occasion to occasion. But that’s exactly what’s going on with this new Nike Dunk High GS for St. Patrick’s Day 2011. These tonal green plus white Dunk Highs for kids are crafted in the same style as the GS Valentine’s Day edition, offering the holiday’s signature symbol in green-on-green atop the patent leather overlay sections. Do we wanna see a pastel pair with bunny rabbits or Easter eggs come April? No word yet on those but just based on where we are in relation to St. Patty’s, these gotta be hitting retailers soon. The Electric Green Foamposite craze can be credited to Nate Robinson, the high-flying slam-dunk extraordinaire who placed himself in the NBA spotlight for his impressive aerial feats. The Nike Air Foamposite Lite ‘Kryptonate‘ that Nate wore during the 2009 NBA Dunk Contest while jumping over the hulking Dwight Howard quickly caught our attention for the vibrant green Foamposite tone, which explains why the Nike Air Foamposite Pro ‘Electric Green’ also kept us interested for so long. With more Air Foamposite Pro colorways arriving in 2011, the Electric Green is the perfect way to roll out the carpet for Foamposite this year. BXSports will have these available when the release next weekend on March 5th so take a look at these new images below and pick up a pair early right now on eBay.

Not long ago Sneaker News showed you a Black/Metallic Gold colorway of the Nike Zoom Uptempo V Premium that was similar to the Black History Month releases that dropped this month. Here’s a look at an opposite effect of that colorway – one in a pure white upper and metallic gold trim. With the yin and the yang from these two releases, you can compare them more to the Zoom Kobe V ‘Big Stage’ Home and Away, although nobody is known to have won an NBA Championship in these. The Zoom Uptempo V Premium, as mentioned before, is a popular shoe among Chinese basketball players in (where else) China, and there certainly is something about this white and gold that emanates the Asian influence (perhaps it’s the speckled gold outsole that was also seen in the Air Jordan 2011 ‘Year of the Rabbit’). Check out the images below and let us know what you think. Thanks to fatboykickz for the pics.

As we stand on the precipice of both the NBA Playoffs and the Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 release, we’re reminded that Rajon Rondo’s superhuman performance last spring is what initially put the space-age Fuse material on the map. Here’s a close-up look at the model Boston’s number 9 has been rocking this year, the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse Low in a Classic Green player exclusive colorway. Their no-nonsense makeup perfectly matches the Celtic tradition and Rondo’s efficient if unpredictable point guard play, and you can see more shots of this Nike Basketball PE when you click on the jump below then grab a pair on eBay.

When you think of Puma, classic styles like the Clyde aside, you tend to picture something Eurocentric. The German Cat is known for their sleek lifesytle sneakers, many of which take after their motorsports offerings, and here’s a new model that’s firmly in that common area with a little running action thrown in for good measure. The Puma Faas 500 offers superior comfort in a streamlined package whose rocker sole helps to make every step that much easier. The first three colorways are evenly split between traditional and audacious, and if you’re asking how can you divide three in half evenly, take a close look at the red/white/neon joints that straddle the line. You can see those along with the rest of the spring colorways after the jump and grab yours from select Puma accounts including Caliroots.

“Most people who collect shoes are showing off what they have, and I think this is one of the most ‘showing off’ shoes . . . Hey, this one is glowing!“
When you consider the success of the boutique and its illustrious history of collaborations, it’s clear Solebox headman Hikmet Sugör simply gets the sneaker industry. For the German boutique’s latest tag team effort, Hikmet called upon his love of sci-fi films and the classic TV show Knight Rider (the OG series, natch) to inspire the Solebox x Reebok Pump Omni Zone. The initial samples even mimicked KITT’s signature scrolling headlight, but Sugoer axed this option along with another sample with green lights in favor of something more closely connected to the sneaker’s natural colorway. And while it might be easy to see these and think, “Oh, an LA Lights redux,” Sugör went so far as to say that “LA Gear didn’t influence [the design process] in any way . . . I don’t like blinking shoes.” Click through to see Hikmet’s video rundown of the Solebox x Reebok Pump Omni Zone with SneakerFreaker Germany and stick with Sneaker News for updates on what’s currently scheduled for a March 5th in-store release.

adidas Originals has given us new colorways of quite a few ZX series vintage runners in 2011 and here’s a new look from one of the senior members of that group. The adidas Originals ZX700 turned 25 last year and this above pictured colorway could very well have been issued anywhere along the way. Its combination of black nubuck and mesh with white and grey accents plus just a hint of orange is timeless and reminds us a little of the OG Reebok Pump Twilight Zone. Click through to see more and if you’re feelin’ these, grab a pair today from Caliroots.
