If you caught the Basketball feature of Sneaker News Goes Inside the ShoeZeum, you might’ve seen Jordan Geller’s baby shoes dipped in bronze, situated next to the Copper Foamposites. Although they weren’t Nikes, we’re certain Jordan would’ve worn these Baby Jordan 1s if he was a toddler during the release, but by ’85, he was well into his Nike craze. Here’s a look at an original pair of the Nike Baby Jordan 1; these have held up quite nicely in twenty-six years, a true testament to the attention to quality and detail of the older models. The upper features a stitched panels with the lace-placket edges featured a ridged sawtooth finish. The locker-themed box – one of several themed boxes of that era – is also one for the Nike history books. If you liked the Baby Grapes we showed you this past weekend, these are an extra special treat, so take a look below and check out the auction from flosa312 on eBay.

inside the shoezeum part 7 the break room Sneaker News Goes Inside The ShoeZeum Part 7: The Break Room

Recently, we’ve brought you extensive looks at some of The ShoeZeum‘s more expansive sections and sub-categories, and now it’s time to kick back a little and enjoy the “Break Room.” Set up to be a place for his employees to unwind and take a load off when the warehouse was still set up for Jordan Geller’s massive eBay business, the Break Room now serves as a home for some classic Nike models inspired by the types of recreational beverages and plants that are just perfect for a getaway from a hard day of work.

As you would expect, the Break Room is one of the smaller displays in The ShoeZeum. The set-up features an L-shaped shelving unit that wraps across two walls and is faced on the other side by a comfy couch where you can put your feet up and enjoy the view. The left side of the display features a variety of releases (mostly Nike SB’s) that get their color inspiration and more from some very recognizable beer labels. Each shoe has been placed with a set-up of corresponding bottles, six-packs and promotional doodads for the full effect.

The right side of the Break Room showcase gives a nod to some herbally-influenced kicks like the Skunks and Hemp SB Dunks, along with the coveted Homegrown Air Max 90′s and a pair of the ARI Newport kicks with matching ashtray for additional smoking flavor. Since our visit a few weeks, back, the Break Room has also added another piece of serious heat thanks to the arrival of a pair of size 11.5 orange Un-Homegrowns that now sit alongside the originals. Panning further to the right, some rasta-friendly sneaker releases finish things off, and from there, there’s only one thing left to do – grab some munchies.

Right outside of the Break Room, you’ll find a table covered with sweets and snacks with the Chocolate, Neopolitan Stussy and Big Gulp SB Dunks mixed in with the mouth-watering display of matching junk food. For a healthier choice, you can then head over to the fridge where you’ll find a pair of Asparagus Dunks boxed up in their appropriate fresh produce packaging. Keep reading after jump for a video intro to the Break Room installment of our look inside The ShoeZeum and head on over to Sneaker News HD for a full gallery of images.

Michael Jordan Through The Years: Olympic Spotlight

mj through the years olympic spotlight Michael Jordan Through The Years: Olympic Spotlight

We’ve covered Michael’s early years, his championship dynasties, his first and second retirement, his Wizards comeback, and the NBA All-Star Game, but Michael also dominated the game on an international level. Two distinguished spots on his wall of awards and achievements go to Olympic Gold Medals that he earned as part of the 1984 Olympic Mens Basketball team, which featured a number of non-professional players that would soon enter the NBA, as well as the historic 1992 Dream Team, long regarded as the greatest assembly of basketball players of all time. Michael was the shining star of both teams, leading the 1984 team with 17.1 points per game and averaging just under 15 for the Dream Team in 1992.

After being drafted by the Chicago Bulls, Michael joined the likes of Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin, and Sam Perkins – future NBA stars – on the 1984 United States Mens Basketball team. One of Michael’s budding rivals on the Olympic stage was Yugoslavian standout Drazen Petrovic, a superstar in Europe who led his home country to a Bronze Medal in the ’84 Olympics and a Silver in ’92, and Michael spoke fondly of Drazen and their short-lived battles during Olympic and NBA play. Michael Jordan did not wear Nike basketball shoes during the 1984 Olympics, but instead the Converse Star Player basketball shoe, as the entire ’84 squad was outfitted by Converse footwear.

1992 was another story; Michael Jordan had just completed his second straight NBA Championship and his seventh signature Air Jordan shoe with Nike was released. For the Olympic Games, Michael debuted an ‘Olympic’ colorway of the Air Jordan VII, which featured a white base accented by navy blue, red, and gold. A bit of controversy surrounded the Air Jordan VII, Nike, and the Olympic marketing stage; both Nike and Reebok were battling for international recognition as the premier basketball brand, and some of the Dream Team athletes – including Jordan – who had lucrative contracts with Nike refused to wear the Reebok warm-up suits. Instead, Michael and fellow Nike athletes turned the collars down and draped American flags over their chests to conceal any Reebok branding of any kind. Michael’s Olympic career is rather short-lived, but there’s plenty to see below, so check out the Olympic Spotlight below and stay tuned to Sneaker News for the next installment of Michael Jordan Through The Years.

nike air trainer huarache black cool grey white 2001 vs 2011 retro comparison Nike Air Trainer Huarache 2001 vs. 2011 Retro Comparison

Nike recently re-released the ‘Raiders’ colorway of the Nike Air Trainer Huarache, the game-changing Nike Trainer shoe that served as the blueprint for the widely successful Zoom Huarache TR Mid. Of course, manufacturer quality is always a hot-button issue with Nike Retro releases, and with Nike trying to maximize its dollar while being environment friendly, there will certainly be noticeable differences as the years go by. Here’s an interested side-by-side comparison between the 2011 and 2001 Retro releases of the Air Huarache Trainer; even through these pictures, the texture of the materials and shades of color have clear discrepancies, but determining which of the two is better is up for debate. If you have plans of copping these or any other Huarache Trainer, check out this comparison below and let us know what similarities or differences stand out to you. Thanks to Alex for the images.

Nike Air METT 90

April 7th, 2011 by | No comments

nike air mett 90 video summary Nike Air METT 90

Sneaker Freaker Germany celebrated its second issue at TheGoodWillOut in Cologne with the centerpiece of the event being the Air METT 90 – an Air Max 90 sculpture made up of six kilograms of savory meat and fixins. Sneaker News has been keeping you up to date with sneaker cakes, but the Air METT 90 is clearly not a dessert dish, but a main course entree that the eventgoers of the Sneaker Freaker Germany celebration event actually munched on throughout the night. The Beef Brothers were the Tinker Hatfields behind this delicious project, and based on the warm reception (and quick consumption) of the Air METT 90, hopefully more beef-injected sneaker sculptures will be on the way (hopefully an Air Max 90 ‘Bacon’). Check out the complete video of the Air METT 90 construction and event and let us know what you think.
