With an industry as heavily cross-pollinated as fashion/footwear, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly where trends begin, but there’s an undeniable shift toward nautical themes across the board of late. Sperry-style boat shoes and subsequent hybrids came into prominence while tons of clothing brands have co-opted the nautical look, this new Concepts x New Balance 999 poised to offer their take on the preppy/hipster convergence. These joints are called ‘the Kennedys’ for their New England sailing culture inspiration, a theme echoed by the colorway and its various nautical flag accents. And these come with a bunch of dope accessories that could have just as easily shown up in a contemporary American Apparel ad, everything from matching polo and tee shirts to a pair of the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses and a Gilligan-style hat.
