The Nike Air Max 97 is a model best known for its OG Silver Bullet colorway but despite this shiny default it has used less patent leather than any of the Nike Sportswear Air Max retro running series. Perhaps this is because its sweeping design lends itself more naturally to synthetics and this new release features its fair share of mesh on the upper tiers but utilizes the mudguard layer for a glossy black base. It’s a nice contrast compared to the otherwise white and silver design and could look great with a carefully selected pair of brightly colored laces. Japanese streetwear brand NEXUSVII has offered their fair share of sneaker collaborations in recent years but for their latest the label has gone one step further and offered a brand new silhouette. Actually, the NEXUSVII x adidas Originals lowtops might not really be completely new, their lowtop silhouette falling somewhere in between Converse’s classic Chuck Taylor All Star and Jack Purcell models, but the use of a bold arc of white dashes around the ankle collar is certainly unique. Also worth noting is the medial midsole text and a flowy Disney-style logo on the tongue tag, all of which will be available at select Asian retailers shortly. via HB

Nike Sportswear has done a great job of resurrecting forgotten classic runners and giving them a new chance to shine in the current age where sneakers are perhaps more appreciated than at any other point in history. And while Asics continues to pump out great Gel Lyte III and GT II colorways, it’s somewhat less common to see the Onitsuka Tiger reach into their vault to dust off a buried gem. But check out this new duo of Asics Gel Saga IIs, a model returning in its original black and purple colorup plus a retrofied white edition with royal and yellow accents. Click through to see more images, let us know how these compare to the other Asics retro running releases and stick with Sneaker News for updates on their availability. via SF

Before LeBron James and the Heat began their quest for the 2011 Championship, Sneaker News had the opportunity to wear-test the all-new LeBron 8 P.S. and analyze its lightweight capabilities. Not much later, LeBron debuted the shoe during Game 1 of the Heat/Sixers series, and thus far, the entire NBA Playoffs has been a showcase for some new sneakers like the adidas Crazy Light and Air Jordan Fly Wade. Another notable shoe to have debuted this postseason is Carmelo Anthony’s Melo M7 Advance, a shoe that Sneaker News gave you a first-hand exclusive look at. Spike Lee joined Melo in the NY sneaker spotlight, as the big-time Knick fan boasted two new PE colorways of the Air Jordan Spiz’ike. Kobe Bryant sported some Jordan Retros before the Lakers’ Game 1 showdown with the Hornets as well.
However, amidst the NBA Playoff frenzy and the collection of new signature shoes was Kanye West’s Air Yeezy 2 – a shoe he wore during his performance at Coachella and later again in London. Other notable sneakers of the week included an all-new Air Force 1 High and Low, two new premium editions of the Nike5 Gato Street, the inspirational Manny Pacquiao x Nike Summer 2011 Collection, and a plethora of upcoming Nike SB releases slated for a release for the remainder of the year. The recently released Nike Free Run+ 2 was the focus of the City Pack, which paid tribute to five major cities known for their dedication to the sport of running. A group of Texas-based sneakerheads began a journey from their home-town to New York City for a two-day Bespoke experience, with their shoes resulting in a ‘Best Sneaker Display’ award at a sneaker show. Finally, the Sneaker News staff put a spotlight on some of Michael’s most memorable moments in his career in the latest Michael Jordan Through The Years feature. There’s plenty more to see so check out this week’s Sneaker News Weekly Rewind!

The Nike Air Max 95 got a nice refresher on Nike iD, allowing the ‘OG’ black/grey gradient to be an iD-able option. However, you might have to put your ideas to rest because the Neutral Grey/Chlorine Blue colorway is about to hit Nike Sportswear retailers. Releasing tomorrow is this summer-ready colorway of the AM95, featuring a multi-grey gradient on the upper paired with the dazzling Chlorine Blue that adds a cool zest to the muted colorway. Some retailers have allowed them to hit shelves early, but starting tomorrow, they’ll be everywhere, so peep these new images below and pick up a pair right now from shaolin8 on eBay.

Kevin Durant’s got that ‘EPIC’ in him. The intangible force the propels great basketball players into legends of the sport. That indescribable ‘IT’ factor that manifests itself for 48 minutes a night. KD, the league’s top scorer for the second season in a row, dropped 23 on Wednesday en route to Game 2 victory, and is just another two short of advancing into the Second Round in a match-up against either the Spurs or the Grizzlies. Kevin Durant’s been wearing the Nike Zoom KD III POP, which features a White/Photo Blue upper, a two-toned blue gradient on the upper, and orange trim on the swoosh border and KD logo on the tongue. He’s likely to wear a different colorway once the series shifts ‘Away’ for KD, so check back with Sneaker News for the best NBA Feet coverage of the 2011 Playoffs, and pick up a pair of the KD III POP now from 95soleman on eBay.

It wasn’t too shocking to see Bodega’s ‘Black Cat Pack’ Nike Air Footscape Woven Chukka followed up with two other Air Footscape Woven Motion colorways, but what is particularly interesting about this pair is how the weave has been implemented. Unlike all of the other Nike (Footscape) Woven releases we’ve seen, these don’t utilize a basketweave to comprise the entire upper, but rather opt for a criss-crossing design whereby ribbons of textile intermingle with a dash-perfed leather upper till they converge at the tongue to form eyelet loops. It’s a unique look even for this avant garde series and you can see more when you click on the jump below. via Kicks-Crew

Nike SB releases have long been classified by their box, marking off the different eras of the Nike Skateboarding venture into easy to distinguish phases. The blue box era has been underway for quite a while now, and there are a lot of people who will be happy to see it go. Beginning in June with the Zoom Eric Koston One, the age of the Nike SB red box will commence, hopefully bringing with it the promise of brighter things to come. Could the new box be a turning point for Nike SB to recapture some of the magic of the early years? Let us know what you think. via ftsldrs

Gingham is one of those patterns you tend to associate with warm weather fashion, so it’s particularly interesting to see this dark application on a new Nike Dunk High. We recently saw a similar motif on an Obsidian Dunk High, but unlike those March releases that featured aqua laces and a white/royal sole, this new edition goes the all-black-everything route, save the obligatory white weave on its plaid ankle collar. We can’t help but wonder what these might have looked like with a gum outsole, but they’re quite fetching all the same and you can grab your pair from the same store that held exclusive rights to the others, England’s JD Sports.

The Air Jordan Fly Wade has yet to debut on an NBA court, but it is likely to happen soon if the Miami Heat can continue its winning ways. After taking a 2-0 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers, Dwyane Wade and the Heat are cool, calm, and collected, and will likely advance to the second round where they will face either the Boston Celtics or the New York Knicks, two teams that the Miami Heat had a tough go with during the season. The Air Jordan Fly Wade will certainly help Wade to victory, as it is the lightest Jordan Brand basketball shoe ever created. Check out these new detailed images of the two June 2011 colorways and let us know which one of the two you like better. via in52.
