For decades, counterfeiters have been making some nice money selling items falsely branded as genuine merchandise. The counterfeit sneaker has been a particular cash cow for these overseas thieves, peddling their wares on the internet through wacky online stores and even on eBay. The New York Times delved a bit deeper into the world of counterfeit sneakers last August and later in November, U.S. Homeland Security took action by shutting down counterfeit footwear sites, but for every closed store, a handful of new ones pop up, so the only way to truly fight the counterfeit sneaker market is to smarten up with your sneaker knowledge and laugh at the truly hideous beasts that have surfaced.
Take for example the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse ‘Grinch’, which wouldn’t be a bad shoe were it not for LeBron’s L23 logo on the heel, or the grey/neon Air Yeezy with the Air Jordan VI midsole. Just what are they thinking? Then again, the thought of an Air Jordan shoe with a full-length Air Max unit would be laughable (that funky-looking Air Max Jordan XIII 360 or Air Max Jordan IV 360), but Jordan Brand just released the Air Jordan 2.0, which is exactly that – an Air Jordan shoe with visible full-length Air. It seems like a hit or miss with these counterfeiters. In any case, Complex compiled a list of the twenty craziest footwear fakes, so head there for the full feature after checking out the sampling below.

The first free agent to get locked up during the 2010 NBA Offseason extravaganza (‘fiasco’ might be a better term) was Amare Stoudemire, who inked a max-contract deal with the New York Knicks. It proved to be money well spent, because STAT was garnering attention as a legitimate MVP candidate, displaying offensive prowess and finishing ability that the Knicks lacked for an entire decade. Stoudemire went most of the season wearing the Nike Zoom Huarache TR Mid, but that might change for the upcoming 2011-12 season because he was just spotted at the Nike Basketball Amare Stoudemire Skills Academy wearing the all-new Nike Air Max Sweep Thru. From what we can notice here, the Air Max Sweep Thru features a unique in-step strap that locks down the entire forefoot and midfoot – similar to what we saw in the Nike Zoom KD IV. Air Max cushioning isn’t new for STAT either, as his entire Nike STAT signature line featured Air Max support. Check out Amare in the all-new Nike Air Max Sweep Thru after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for more updates regarding this new Nike Basketball model.

The Nike Zoom Huarache TR Mid was chosen as one of Sneaker News’ thirty best of 2010, a selection that many of our readers seemed to agree with. So why was the debut for the Zoom Huarache 2 – an apparent sequal to the Zoom Huarache TR Mid – so quiet? The Zoom Huarache 2 shares the same midsole platform with a similar upper and ankle construction, but comes without a stability strap and wings and features a larger, more prominent swoosh on the upper. These two releases make up the ‘Chicago’ Pack, representing the intra-city rival White Sox and Cubs of the Windy City. Both pairs also feature pinstriped inner lining (to match the uniforms) and special insoles, detailing train maps that connect the landmark stadiums to the rest of the city. These are available now at Chicago retailers SNYX, but stick with Sneaker News for more information and updates on the Nike Zoom Huarache 2.

Creating a Nike Air Force 1 Bespoke is like being a kid stuck in a candy store. While at first, stuffing your pockets with all the sweet goodness might seem like a great idea, you’ll end up with a bad tummy ache and a lingering feeling of self-doubt and question. Keeping it simple and controlled is what makes a Bespoke truly great, and Steven Pinkerton, for his ‘Round 1′ Bespoke, got the moderation thing down pat. Here’s a look at this latest Nike Air Force 1 Bespoke, featuring a tonal royal blue suede upper, a full gum sole, a peanut butter perforated leather inner lining, and UG Soles lace dubrae. Steven clearly had this vision in mind when he decided to shell out the hundreds of dollars for the sneaker, and we say job well done. Continue reading for another look and let us know what you think.

We knew we were in for a grand finale when Michael Jordan decided to break out the Air Jordan XIV for the first time during Game 5 of the 1998 NBA Finals. We all know how that story ended; Michael had the ball at the top of the key, drove right, crossed back to his left, and hit a sweet jumper to give the Chicago Bulls a 1-point lead – one that would prove to be the deciding bucket for the series. As Michael walked around the court with six fingers held high, the Air Jordan XIV engraved its place in Jordan history, despite seeing just 72 minutes of action. In October, Jordan Brand will release a new colorway of the Air Jordan XIV in Light Graphite, Midnight Navy, and Black. It should remind you of previous Air Jordan colorways, like the OG Air Jordan XIII Flint and Air Jordan XIII Low in Black/Navy. We’ve got a new set of images for you below courtesy of air-randyhk, so check ‘em out and let us know if these are a must-have for you.

Air Jordan flagship models have always featured premium materials geared toward combining deluxe aesthetics with superior performance. The new Air Jordan 2011 Q Flight sees that balance shift toward the latter, the Quick Fuse Flight’s Hyperfuse upper panel the most breathable and lightweight material ever used on a pair of Jays. This gives younger sneakerheads a chance to get a glimpse into what old heads saw when the Air Jordan IV debuted with a mesh side panel and brought the AJ5s along for the ride, and the above pictured AJ2011 Q Flight in black/white is every bit as timeless as those classics. The Nike Air Max JR has seen enough crazy colorways in its preview cycle to compete with the entire combined history of the Nike Griffey line, but what about palettes that hearken back to Junior’s glory days? Check out the latest Air Max JR revelation, a black-based getup with teal and red accents that’s reminiscent of the OG ‘Freshwater’ Air Griffey Max 1 (aka ‘Mariners Emerald’) that’ll hit retailers this August. Interestingly enough, these are also slated with an August 10th release at NSW retailers like Villa, so which one will you choose? Click through for more of the black and turquoise Air Max JR and stick with Sneaker News in case we find them available early.

We recently broke you off with a preview of the Nike SB July 2011 collection, and we’re back again to give you an in depth look at the Nike SB Blazer Mid set to drop for the month of July. The suede treatment is a go-to look for the Blazer, and this model pulls it off in a deep shade of navy labeled here as Charcoal. Beyond that we see a not quite white color on the swoosh and laces, reminiscent of the faux vintage treatment we’ve seen on some other Blazer releases. Finally to give the shoe a bit more pop there is a dark red that shows up on the lining and the various Nike branding throughout. Hit the jump to get a more complete look at this Nike SB Blazer Mid, and keep an eye out for them at select SB accounts like Flatspot.

The saying “That’s why you play the game” suggests that you need to have a contest to determine who’s really the best, but you could have seen the result of last Wednesday’s 2011 Stanley Cup Finals Game 7 coming from a mile away. Or from seventeen years away (in which case, you’d cover about one foot per day to complete the trek), which was the last time Vancouver was engulfed in rioting following a Game 7 loss. And with the Cup being captured by yet another team wearing black and yellow this year, it’s yet more of the same thing, but with a twist. Kinda like the Supra Bandits and Stacks done in the Boston Bruins high-contrast colorway to form the ‘Black & Yellow’ Pack. Click through for a closer look at these suede and leather special edition skate sneakers and look for them at your local Supra dealer soon.
