Interesting thing about the early ’90s: countless retro models and colorways have been borrowed from this classic era when seemingly everyone wore plaid button-downs, and yet the guys who made them the must-have garment during that period have seen their music largely absent the kind of revivals that have retroactively benefited other genres. Put simply, at this point in history, grunge music is little more than a town we drove through between punkton and indieville. Bands like Nirvana, Alice and Chains and Stone Temple Pilots have maintained significant cult followings, but the music is just too dang dark to survive in today’s club-happy radio climate.
So with all that in mind, it’s absolutely stunning that Pearl Jam have managed to release nine albums and sell out arenas across the country for twenty-one years now. And given the similarity they share as being alt staples, then discarded, and brought back again stronger than ever, it’s fitting to see Eddie Vedder’s band work with Vans Classic on a pack of Sk8-His. The Pearl Jam x Vans Sk8-His are evenly split between an old school Seattle Supersonics look and another with black suede framing its plaid flannel side panels. The Nike Zoom Hyperfuse made its grand debut in July 2010, releasing in a number of general and nation-specific colorways, with the 2010 FIBA World Championships serving as an international stage debut for the high-tech Nike Basketball shoe. One year later and the sophomore effort of the Hyperfuse arrives, adopting just a ’2011′ designation and an all-new re-tooled upper. The ankle of the Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 features the high-cut construction, with Fuse reaching up to its peak and wrapping most of the lateral side of the upper. The medial side-wall of the shoe features the lightweight Fuse material as well, except for the toe area, which is covered with the polyurethane shell. These nine new colorways are slated to hit stores this July so take a look at the entire set below and let us know which of the nine you like best.

Built on the Hyperfuse composite material that was near the top of the list for most popular choices this past season, the Nike Air Shox Hyperballer is poised to bring the ‘Boing!’ back to basketball. Will this upcoming Wolf Grey, white and Sport Red colorway become this decade’s ‘Lapis’ Shox BB4? It certainly has a distinct look, even in a period when simple team-oriented colorways are dominating the market, and with at least one world champion in Shawn Marion already rocking this model, you know they can handle the pressure of the world’s biggest stage. Ray Allen, whose name was already in Hall of Fame discussions, pretty much solidified his spot among the greatest of all time when he became the all-time leader in three-pointers made when he broke Reggie Miller’s long-standing record on February 9th. Jordan Brand hooked up its longest-tenured Jordan Brand basketball athlete by outfitting him in a Player Exclusive colorway of the Air Jordan XIII in White/Green with his ‘Ray’ logo on the tongue. That night was certainly one of his key moments of his career, and in the sneaker world, his Air Jordan PEs were the talk of the town. Recently, a release of the Air Jordan XIII Ray Allen PE was rumored to go down, and here we have yet another look at this likely super-limited release. Eric Koston is one of the few riders on Nike SB’s current active rosters who can remember a time in the mid ’90s when pretty much all skate shoes looked like the one pictured above: a simple two or three colored palette featuring a suede upper and gum rubber on the outsole. This upcoming colorway from his Nike SB Koston 1 is also somewhat similar to one of the initial releases that just hit store shelves, though a black midsole with just a hint of gum peaking out at the toe makes for a much darker and more serious feel compared to the lighter pair. Click through for more angles and hit up Flatspot because they just made these available.

FORE! The Nike Dunk has proven itself both impeccably styled and capable of taking on a huge variety of upgrades and augmentations, so it should come as no surprise that when the Swoosh was looking to expand its golf shoe offerings into a more casual space, that this Nike Sportswear classic would get its country club membership ahead of the rest of the list. Check out the Nike Dunk NG, a lowtop version of this classic silhouette with a way-past-SB sole reconstruction that offers a more articulate traction pattern that should presumably allow blades of grass to move more freely while you twist with the stability of seven six-pronged spikes. If you’re in the habit of watching TV (and especially online episodes), chances are, the first few bars of Big Sean’s ‘I Do It’ are burnt into your mind along with images of the aptly named adidas adiZero Crazy Light. In the TV spot, NBA MVP Derrick Rose tells you to remember the number 9.8, and not just because the Chicago Bulls were 7 wins away from a title. It’s actually the shockingly slight weight of a size 9, an accomplishment whose cutting edge construction fits the futurism captured by this track’s bulbous synth notes. Click through to see the ‘What’s in a Number’ remix and stick with Sneaker News for the latest from adidas Basketball.

Look out for these at Jordan Brand retailers like Extra Butter so take a look below for another look and don’t miss out on these releases.

Much has been made of Michael Jordan wearing a pair of Anfernee Hardaway’s Nike Air Flight Ones in the 1995 NBA Playoffs, but did you know that Penny also had a pair of custom Jays? And we’re not talking about a hatchet job like MJ did to carve away the 1-cent logo from his Air Flight One ‘PEs’, but rather a full on Air Jordan IX player exclusive colorway created for the guard who best carried the torch Mike’s marketing magic when His Airness left the hardwood for greener pastures. And talk about ending up in a beautiful place; this Penny AJIX PE from Hardaway’s 1993-94 rookie campaign certainly has what it takes to compete with the best Air Jordan 9 special makeups out there. Where does it rank in your own opinion? Click through for more angles to aid in your decision and stick with Sneaker News for more historic hidden gems. Thanks kjacobsen53

The versatile Hyperfuse technology has the ability to take shape of any model, and after we saw it take form of the Nike Air Max 1 last August, we figured more Nike Fuse models were on the way. The Nike Air Force 1 High is one of them, a classic Nike Sportswear model that has undergone some alterations over the years. It was first made a bit heavier with the Foamposite Air Force 1 High, but for the Air Force 1 High Fuse, it experiences a vast weight reduction thanks to the one-piece Hyperfuse upper. The rubber outsole still makes these a viable basketball shoe, although nobody in the NBA wears Forces in games now that ‘Sheed called it quits. In any case, expect the Air Force 1 High Fuse to hit select Nike Sportswear retailers soon, and check out these new images of the Midnight Fog colorway courtesy of LTD-Online.
