Even if you don’t own a pair of the Nike Cortez, you already recognize the shoe as one of the originals that build the Nike foundation. The Cortez dates back to the 70’s (you might remember Forrest Gump beating his pair to the ground – the same pair given to him by Jenny), but this 1988 reissue features a colorway that drew inspiration from another big Nike release of that year – the Air Jordan III. Here’s a look at this rare Nike Cortez Classic AC in black leather, featuring elephant print on the swoosh and heel-tab. The midsole features a grey stripe on the rear heel and red print on the Nike branding on the tongue. While not a direct Air Jordan III affiliation, its quite clear where this funky idea came from.
