Manhattan clothiers Barneys New York have seen their fair share of exclusive sneaker releases over the years, a range that can be best typified with the phrase ‘lifestyle sneakers’. But let’s not forget that the kinds of styles we default to today are just the ones that dominated athletic performance in years gone by, and perhaps no single model has adapted to that transition better than the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star. Barneys just started selling these perforated leather Chuck lowtops that are so (much more) breathable (than the previous Barneys Chucks) you’ll be able to see your socks through the heavily ventilated design. Click through for closer views at the cream, black and white pairs and pick these up directly from the Barneys e-store.

‘Batman’ is one of those words that if you look at it for long enough, it takes on a totally different meaning. And not like the words you examine only to find that they’re apparently descended from some alien language, but in the sense that the idea of a bat-man isn’t really something to be thrilled about. Bats can be awful if you have long hair and if you make a man-sized one, that’d be just more trouble still. But from the ‘Da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na’ and Caesar Romero to Jack Nicholson and most recently Heath Ledger, the DC Comics series has such a rich legacy that rarely if ever do we think of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego as just some big winged rodent. He owns the craziest array of implements this side of Inspector Gadget, so this new Converse Chuck Taylor All Star featuring a B&W take on the newest of the three original TV series logoss on the heel offers a bit of perspective on the character through time, thanks to its simplistic design on an even longer tenured silhouette. Click through to see more angles and pick up a pair today from RMK.

Did you catch Hyperfuse 2011 designer Leo Chang during yesterday’s live chat on Facebook? Fun fact; the design for the Hyperfuse 2011 was originally the design of the Air Shox Hyperballer. So, if the Hyperfuse 2011 Low is somewhat of a descendant of the Air Shox Hyperballer as well! It’s all good, because they’re all in the same family, so it’s up to you to choose what style of performance fits your game. Shox, for example, is a niche shoe, as is the low-cut construction, so if you’ve been rocking out on low-top basketball sneakers, this sweet new White/Varsity Royal-Sport Red colorway just hit Nikestore. More images await you below, so take a peek and let us know what style of basketball shoes you prefer.

There’s a ton of great Sneaker News from the past week, so let’s get right down to business. First off, we showed you a glimpse at a sample of the Black/Pink Air Yeezy 2, spotted during a scene in Kanye’s documentary film. Moving on the Air Jordan news, we gave you a look at special China-inspired PEs of three Jordan Brand sig shoes, but we also dropped some fresh news and images of other Retro models. Nike SB continues to puzzle with the state of the releases of the Entourage SB Dunks, and the new Green LeBron 8 V/2 unreleased sample had us wondering what other colorways were in store. Air Force 1s made some big news as well, as we saw the Air Force 1 Low Hyperfuse as well as the limited ‘We Are New York’ Pack. Nike iD also launched a slew of new options and models this week, making for a much-needed refresher in the Nike iD catalog.
Continuing with Nike, Sneaker News presented some new colorways of the Hyperdunk 2011, and also dropped the release info for the Ripstop Penny 1 in Black/Royal. The Jeremy Scott collection continues to wow us, as we brought you a look at the JS ‘Gorilla’, inspired by King Kong. Swizz Beatz’ Reebok connection was in full force as well, as Tuesday night’s star-studded event caught our attention. Ronnie Fieg’s next collaboration with Asics was revealed, which featured a trio of black, grey, and aqua blue. We got a small dose of celebrity feet this week, thanks to Big Sean’s AJV Grapes and Gary Payton sneaker retrospect. Sneaker News also selected the Nike Dunk High as the focus of this week’s Battle of the Customs, which consisted of 11 designs from 8 different artists. And finally, the Sneaker News Weekly Buyer’s Guide brought you the best selection of kicks of the past week and the upcoming weekend. There’s plenty more below so cool off with the Sneaker News Weekly Rewind!

We all attribute the ‘South Beach’ colorway to the LeBron 8, but it was Dwyane Wade who resided in Miami since 2003. Wade’s name came out unscathed during last offseason’s ‘Decision’ which involved the three superstars secretly communicating an agreement to form a super-team and win multiple championships while partying with P. Diddy and Rick Ross on the beach. Although they didn’t win a championship, Wade & Crew are still partying in the offseason, with Wade recently being spotted with the Jordan Fly Wade South Beach during a charity event he threw. You too can party like Wade (well, with the shoes at least) because they’re officially dropping this Saturday at select Jordan Brand retailers. We’ve got a new set of images below so watch for these to hit House of Hoops locations, or grab a pair right now from eBay.

“I believe I can…skate.”
We’re glad Michael Jordan never tried skate-boarding, but if he did attempt a run at the local skate-park, would he have rocked the SB Dunk Low ‘Space Jam’? We first saw the Air Jordan XI ‘Space Jam’ when Michael debuted the Air Jordan XI during the 1995 NBA Playoffs (of course, they weren’t called the Space Jam back then), and in a surprising move, the shoe was used as the inspiration behind this Nike SB Dunk Low release (though it wasn’t the first Air Jordan inspired SB Dunk design). With the patent leather upper, nylon panels, and thick roped laces, it’s obvious what Nike SB had in mind when designing these, and the excitement behind these quickly built up when we first showed ‘em a few months back. SB Dunks typically don’t have set release dates, but select Nike SB accounts have stuck by a July 23rd release date, so watch for these to hit Nike SB spots like Primitive tomorrow, or grab yours now on eBay.

Ray Allen’s always had that ‘underrated’ aura about him. He was one of many superstars in that monstrous 1996 NBA Draft class, which featured the likes of Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant, and he played for a Milwaukee team that was hardly in the national spotlight. Ray was always a baller in the Playoffs, dropping 20+ per game rather easily while being one game away from making it to his first ever NBA Finals in 2001, but it was all ‘downhill’ from there; the Bucks missed the Playoffs there-after, and he was shipped to Seattle in a blockbuster trade, where he reached the Playoffs just once. Ray Allen’s one of those guys who had superstar talent in mediocre surroundings, and it wasn’t until his arrival in Boston in 2007 when the entire load wasn’t put on his shoulders. That shared burden of ‘win now’ was a lot easier to carry, and in an ever-so-slightly diminished role, he helped lead Boston to its first ever NBA Championship since 1986.
Today, Ray Allen has outlived most of his ’96 draftmates (with the exception of 5-time champion Kobe Bryant), and in that impressive career, he’s solidified himself as one of the best pure scorers to ever play the game while sealing his title as the greatest 3-point shooter of all-time. At 36 years old, Ray still has a few years of quality basketball left in him, and even if he retires without adding a second ring to his trophy case, he’ll leave the NBA as one of the greatest players of all-time. Ray Allen is the longest-tenured Jordan Brand athlete for good reason, and tomorrow, sneakerheads will have the opportunity to celebrate his longevity because Jordan Brand will release the Air Jordan XIII PE that Ray wore during his record-breaking night. These were originally set to be an extremely limited release, but other retail spots like CNCPTS and even Finishline have confirmed a limited stock, so hopefully these won’t be to hard to obtain. Let us know if you have plans of copping these, and if you’re willing to pay the price, snag one of these limited pairs now on eBay.

Nike Sportswear released another colorway in the same silhouette pictured above, which also featured a white leather body plus soft blue accents and a third shade on the Air cushion. This just goes to show how important colorblocking can be because this new Nike Air 180 comes off considerably brighter than the earlier edition. This is certainly at least in part due to the actual shades of blue in use, but even more significant is the addition of that same shade on the Swoosh and Air bubble frame. The Volt cushion finishes off the look nicely and you can pick up a pair from NSW spots like SneakersNStuff.

The P-Rod 2.5 was the first secondary shoe from the line and Paul Rodriguez’ first vulc-soled Nike SB signature, a model whose forebear featured a Gucci-inspired quilted side panel design. This P-Rod II-born design element didn’t show up on the 2.5s all that much but here’s a new Nike SB V-Rod that’s as close as we’ve seen in a couple years. These match a black diamond-perfed leather upper to a gum rubber bottom for a clean look with just enough extra to turn heads, and you can find them now at NikeStore.
