Hip-hop culture and sneakerheadism share much in common, so after last summer’s countless ‘Beamer, Benz or Bentley’ reduxes and this year’s seemingly infinite variations on Rick Ross’ favorite cadence, it’s fitting that 2011 has been the year of the colorway customs. We’re talking specifically about reappropriating famous palettes on other classic silhouettes as in the case of our Air Jordan VI customs battle, and this newest such remix borrows a look released from that model’s immediate predecessor. The Air Jordan V ‘Tokyo23’ dropped in limited numbers a short while ago and Detroit-based customizer El Cappy decided it’d also look good on the ‘Pure $’ AJ3, the all-white Three from 2007. He was right, and the Pures’ white base likely made for an easier job than some we’ve seen; how do they rank against the best palette mashups?
