The Nike Mag is finally here! 22 years after it was first featured in the 1989 film Back To The Future II, the self-lacing Nike Mag will finally become an attainable piece of footwear history, with 1,500 pairs going up for auction (150 pairs per day). The first wave of auctions will start on September 8th at 11:30PM EST/8:30 PM PST and end on September 18th in what will be one of the greatest eBay charity auction events ever undertaken. The NIKE MAG is no longer the “greatest shoe never made.” The mythical shoe that originally captured the imagination of audiences in Back to the Future II is being released – and they’re here to help create a future without Parkinson’s disease.
1500 pairs of the 2011 NIKE MAG will be auctioned on eBay with all net proceeds going directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Each day for the duration of the ten-day auction, one hundred and fifty pairs of the 2011 NIKE MAG shoes will be made available via eBay’s Fashion Vault. The auction starts September 8, 8:30PM PST, and will end September 18. Thanks to a previous 50 million dollar match given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, all donations will be matched, effectively doubling the contributions from the auction.
The original NIKE MAG was worn by the Back to the Future character Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, in the year 2015. It came alive, lit up and formed to Marty’s foot. The 2011 NIKE MAG shoe was designed to be a precise replica of the original from Back to the Future II. The aesthetic is an exact match, down to the contours of the upper, the glowing LED panel and the electroluminescent NIKE in the strap. The 2011 NIKE MAG illuminates with the pinch of the “ear” of the high top, glowing for five hours per charge.

I guess it's cool that they're doing this for charity, but it singles out alot of people knowing that these will probably go for 2k each. They should've just done this on Nike.com and release alot more pairs for 250 retail that would equal the amount of selling 1500 at around 2k each.

I think that Nike is doing something for charatity that is beautiful. Most of us won't be able to afford these epic kicks. But maybe in 2015 Nike will release them so the public, and would be available to most of us… 3 years is not that far away guys. But never the less the charity is a awesome idea, especially with Micheal having the disease himself, kudos!

I think they're releasing them now because they can and the money will go to Parkinsons research while Michael J. Fox is still around. (I don't know what his health is… he could live another 20 years as far as I know.) Hopefully they'll be able to do a larger release in the next few years.

I love that they are auctioning them for charity but if they don't automatically lace they are pointless. They should have kept working the technology until Oct 21, 2015 and then released them without the autolacing then if it still couldn't be done. There are countless other things they could have done to raise money for parkinsons.

These are going to go for way more the 1g a pair. Esp common shoe sizes. I mean if Yeezy's are going for around 1,000 for resell. These will top that. Factor in the money from winning bids are for a good cause and the bids are going to be through the roof. People with no real interest in the shoes will bid solely as a donation towards the disease. And the small number of units produced for this run. Prices will be nuts just check the auctions within 5 mins. of them posting. It's going to be nuts.

It's a clear message to the resellers, it's a way for the show resellers that their familiar with game called "FILP". Nike knows that even if they make these a quickstrike relase,they will end up on EBay, 4x the original price.

I don't understand why they are showing all these pictures of Tinker designing this and drawing it out. The shoe has already been designed. How hard is it to take a shoe that's already made and make more of them? I thought the only reason they hadn't come out yet was because they were working to get the autolacing to work. Capitalist looser… "hey, lets make everything exclusive now!" I'm all up for helping out a good cause, but 5K is just a little steep. I'd be willing to pay 600$ and not a penny more(unless they tied themselves). Now a days everything has it's exclusivity, from Lego, to damn shoes. It sucks for the fans that have a life outside of collecting crap. But hell, it's totally ok for those with all the cash or the connections to get whatever they please in life, lets just all step on the little guy! I have nothing against the whole idea of making this a forwarded release, those who want it now have to pay for them.
