It’s official; the week of September 3rd-9th was the biggest week in sneakers ever, going solely on the strength of the Nike Mag 2011 release. It was Nike’s best kept secret in history, and it was all for a great cause, as proceeds from the Nike Mag 2011 auctions went toward Michael J. Fox’s charity. A new Air Jordan III colorway also surfaced – a ‘reverse’ Flip colorway of sorts – and will likely release later this year. Sneaker News also brought you a look at the Nike LeBron 9 Low in two new colorways, and what was interesting was that the Low-top had full-length Max Air (the Mid has Zoom/Max combo). ‘Eggplant’ will be a returning theme for the next Nike Air Penny shoe, as we brought you a look at the rich purple colorway of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP. Rounding out basketball news was a look at some Nike Basketball 2012 releases like the Zoom KD IV, and the debut of the Reebok Zig Encore 2 ‘Grown Ass Man’ edition, which was a symbolic 21st birthday celebration for John Wall.
Looking at topics focusing on classic runners, Crooked Tongues collaborated with NSW for the Nike Air Max 90 Hyperfuse Infrared. Solemart, one of the most popular traveling sneaker events in Europe, stopped at Berlin. Moving back to the U.S. events sneaker specialties, we got a look at a special pair of Nike Air Force 1 Lows commemorating John Strickland, a NYC streetball legend, and Moe’s Sneaker Spot held a release event for last week’s Pine Foamposites. It was a solid week for celebrities as well, as we spotted the Bred XI, Black/Metallic Vs, and Air Jordan 1s on legendary hip-hop figures Nas, Jay-Z, and P. Diddy. Finally, Sneaker News unveiled the winner of the Sneaker News Air Max 1 iD Design Contest. Check out all the top stories and the Nike Mag madness below and don’t miss out a single hot event from the last week of kicks!
