In a certain very literal way, the most buzzworthy sneaker collaboration of the year, this latest tag-team effort between Supreme and Vans applies an interesting take on a couple of things you never would have pictured together. Fresh new suede and canvas kicks are far from a nuisance and there’s never been a preppy print featuring such a ‘common’ animal inspiration as the new Supreme x Vans Flies Pack. New York’s longstanding Red Box Logo appears on the heels of six new pairs split between the Vans Sk8-Hi and Era, all of which will be available in NY, LA and LDN on Thursday, September 29th followed by a Friday, October 1st drop in Japan.

Earlier this month Sneaker News gave you a look at a special pair of the Nike Air Force 1 Low in a classic white-on-white with a gum outsole. A further detailed look at the sneaker revealed some interesting details, like the ‘Finish Your Breakfast’ tongue labels and molded leather logos on the heel, which spell out ‘Franchise’ – a tribute to the legendary NYC street-baller John ‘Franchise’ Strickland who passed away in October of 2010. These John Strickland specialties will release this October to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Strickland’s passing, and will be available at select Nike Sportswear retailers. Continue reading for another look at this special pair of kicks and let us know what you think.

2006 brought us the Air Force 1 Low ‘Scarface’ with split colorblocking inspired by every gangsta rapper’s favorite metaphor supplier; will this 2011 release in Tony Montana’s name from another one of Miami’s polarizing protagonists achieve a similar notoriety? Check out what could become LeBron James’ default home look for Miami Heat games at American Airlines Arena, the Nike LeBron 9‘Scarface’. The stark contrast on this pair is brought to a focal point on the tongue where the LeBron 9′s angular cut-in offers the most obvious connection with that classic black/white movie poster. September has already seen a two-pack of Dunk High AC Quickstrikes that Nike Sportswear crafted with a ’Deconstructed’ look and name, about half of their new Air Ralston lifestyle midtops have a floppy, minimal build, and now another Dunk with a different feel thanks to the classic cupsole. All-suede bodies on these new Nike Dunk Mid Decon Premiums also gives a more traditional feel, though the ‘Mid’ designation and differing eyelet-wing placements on these preview images compounds the curiosity given that outside of a scant few GS drops, NSW has only issued Highs and Lows to this point in history. But without a strap like Nike SB’s, these don’t look all that different from highs from a distance; it’ll be interesting to see how the fit and overall look compares to 1985′s all-timer. Click through to see the Old Royal, Dragon Red and Grain Dunk Mid Decons and let us know which ones you’ll pick up when they hit in Q2 2012. via CK

It’s not shocking that the new grey/white/neon or 2005-retro in V.Red and Steel Grey Air Jordan X Retros previewed in recent months are lacking embroidery detailing on their lateral ankles, but a recent Old Royal revelation with ’23′ on its sides has us remembering previous samples of this‘Chicago’ colorway. That’s the interesting thing about the Tens; on the surface they’re one of the simplest of all the Air Jordan Legacy, but this one particular model has room for a variety of expressions. From the embroidery to the re-reversed Jumpman on this pair appearing in red instead of the original’s backwards black, keen-eyed sneakerheads will be able to determine an AJX’s vintage on the spot thanks to these small changes. This is one that never said ‘NIKE AIR’ in the first place; are the differences subtle enough to stay true to the OGs? Have a closer look after the jump and stick with Sneaker News so we can get you the exact US release date for this January 2011 drop. via Kicks-lab

Have you been following Sneaker News long/closely enough to remember when Nike Sportswear in New York sold off a run of all-grey ‘Try-Ons’ from NIKEiD in three of NSW’s best loved silhouettes? A greyed-out model looking dope enough to sell out almost instantly indicates good things are possible from the Swoosh’s online customization service, and this first look at a template for the Nike LeBron 9 iD suggests the wows will extend from recently unveiled colorways to the ones you can make for yourself. The LeBron 9 preview begins on NIKEiD on October 11th followed by availability in the US and abroad two weeks later on Tuesday the 25th. Which palletes do you expect to look best on the LeBron 9s? What’s John Mayer doing when he’s not fiddling around on his American Strats? The pop/soul/blues guitarist and singer was spotted at LAX last week wearing the CNCPTS x New Balance 999 ‘The Kennedy’ which released back in April. John Mayer sneaker sightings aren’t very frequent, but John Mayer’s sneaker game is on point, as he’s been spotted with sneakers throughout his career in the limelight. In fact, the last John Mayer sighting on Sneaker News was in late 2009, when he was spotted wearing the DQM x Nike Blazer High. Check out John Mayer and his New Balance kicks below and let us know if you remember John Mayer wearing other notable kicks. via TJMWL.

As far as sneaker names go, it doesn’t get much more straightforward than the Jordan Play In These. Perhaps serving as a response to the legacy series shifting towards fashion over function, the originall version of this performance sneaker was played in by a handful of Jordan Brand athletes in the 2011 NBA Playoffs. Following the success of the first edition, we have a sneak preview of the Jordan Play In These II, slated for Spring/Summer 2012. The overall shape of the shoe remains intact, with the most notable of the upgrades being the Hyperfuse paneling on the upper. Check out the full images of the upcoming colorways for the new Jordan Play In These II after the jump and let us know if you’ll be picking up a pair. via aaronknows.

In the world of running it’s always a good idea to keep in mind what’s coming around the next bend. With that in mind, we’re hooking you up with a preview of whats next from the Nike Free line for 2012. In 2011 we saw the Nike Free technology extended to models like the Huarache and the Trainer 1.3, but Nike hasn’t abandoned the flag bearer for this flexible technology, coming with the Nike Free Run+ 3 for next year. The lightweight runners feature a more centered swoosh, and a partitioned construction vs. this year’s weblike design. Clocking in at a mere 8.7 ounces for a size 10, they seem to be shaving off whatever they can weight-wise to make these the ultimate frees. Take a full look after the jump and let us know if you’ll be copping a pair come Summer 2012. via CK
