Unboxing The Nike Mag 2011

We’re all familiar with the infinite wait for THE package to arrive. Twiddling your thumbs while compulsively checking on that tracking number online, wondering if your kicks got lost in the mail because the ‘OUT FOR DELIVERY’ update that was made at 6:37 AM hasn’t been changed, running to your window every time a car passes by, only to realize it’s a wretched school-bus filled with children or a damn Fresh Direct delivery truck. WHY DO YOU TORTURE ME, OH SNEAKER GODS?!? It’s hell. We know. We’ve been there. So imagine if you have an item scheduled to arrive – an item that is undoubtedly the best sneaker release of the year and perhaps of the last decade; the waiting period is a lot worse, but the joy from unboxing your newfound sneaker pick-up is exponentially greater. It’s here. You’re mine. Get in mah belly.

Yu-Ming Wu, founder/publisher of Sneaker News and long-time sneaker aficionado, had not one, but two pairs of the Nike Mag 2011 arrive at his door-step, and he gracefully presented us with a step-by-step unboxing of the Mags – a sinfully indulgent experience that most of us will sadly never witness. A box, inside a box, inside a box is where you’ll find the , which also comes with a booklet of dos and don’ts (don’t wear ‘em in water, don’t try to fly like Michael) and instructions on how to light up your Mags and recharge the batteries. What makes the unboxing of the Mags that much more special? Most packages arrive in a few days. For the Mags, it took 23 years. Check out the full un-boxing experience below!

Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Team Red Black

September saw the release of a suede Blazer High SB in black with Team Red accents, so how about a model that’s roughly its inverse?  Check out the latest Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski, a lowtop that comes in Team Red suede, but instead of leather accents, as is the case with all Janoskis, the black side panel Swooshes are embroidered right onto the vamp.  This one will take a bit more effort to get than the aforementioned Blazers, as they’re an ‘Under the Line’ release exclusive to brick and mortar Nike SB retailers, which means you can get them right now from select locations like Dissent.

During his stay in NYC, Mac was spotted wearing the yet-to-release Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte III ‘Salmon Toes’ with the matching Kith x Shades of Grey varsity jacket, which is set to release alongside the Salmon Toes this September 30th. Mac Miller described his stay in NYC as ‘magical’, but he’ll be gone soon as his tour continues in the Northeast with pit-stops in Northampton, Providence, Baltimore, and Philadelphia. Nike Air Huarache Bball 2012

Nike’s continual rehashing of classic models with newer performance tech for 2012 has brought back some Nike Basketball classics like the Nike Air Shake NDestrukt, which will return as the Nike Air Max Shake Evolve, and the Nike Air Huarache Basketball, which will also make comeback bearing the same name with the 2012 designation. The Air Huarache Basketball was already a design ahead of its time, but even in 2012, it still seems to be ‘out of this world’ with its funky, high-cut ankle and rigid heel-counter. The major differences you can expect with the Air Huarache Basketball 2012 is the basketball-specific Free-grooved sole, which allows for multi-directional flexion that better fits the game of basketball, and a new one-piece toe that forms a sock-like feel with the neo-prene ‘bootie’. Check out these four new Summer 2012 colorways below and let us know what you think. via CK.

Entourage x Nike SB Dunk Low Lights Out General Release Edition

One for the money, two for the show. Will you cop two pairs of the Entourage x Nike SB Dunk Low, now that we have a look at a the general release edition? Back in mid-June, Sneaker News showed you a special friends-and-family pair of the Nike SB Dunk Low made just for the crew of Entourage. The hit HBO show, which followed a up-and-coming Hollywood superstar and his ‘entourage’ of friends, always had Nike sneakers as part of the show’s culture thanks to Turtle’s character, but the Nike SB Dunk Low isn’t just another special colorway, but a proper farewell to a television program that defined the current generation. The General Release version of the Entourage x Nike SB Dunk Low has a few notable changes, like the gum outsole, the gold-stitched ‘NIKE’ on the heel-tab, and the removal of the ‘entourage’ emblem on the tongue. Do you like the GR version of the friends-and-family edition? Check out the images below and stick with Sneaker News for any updates or changes regarding the tentative Black Friday 2011 release date. via maxna on N-SB.

Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Black Perf | Available

As sneakerhead culture continues to grow in breadth and sophistication, perhaps it’s time we adopt some objective criteria to discuss different designs. But we usually can’t agree on a favorite colorway for one model, much less a rigid set of criteria for what’s ‘best’, which is one of the most compelling parts of this hobby, and also something that leaves us without something like sabermetrics to put our kicks head-to-head. But if there were some kind of ranking of kicks with the most solid releases within the smallest band of color expression, the Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski would be leaps and bounds ahead of its competition. We’ve seen quite a few different black Stefan Janoski SBs, but yet this perforated leather pair is sure to sell out like all the others before it because it’s impeccably styled and supremely versatile. Check out more shots after the jump and look for these at Swoosh skateboarding retailers like Premier.

Jordan BCT Mid Upcoming Colorways

Beyond the annual legacy release, Jordan Brand puts a lot of work into branching out the Jumpman line with diverse footwear offerings. One of their most wide ranging releases performance wise as of late is the Jordan BCT Mid, a multi-sport trainer whose design was directed by Tinker himself. These two new colorways, slated to arrive at Jordan Brand retailers in October, have a metallic luster to them akin to the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP’s we’ve seen. Check out the full shots of both the team red and obsidian pairs after the jump and be on the lookout for these to hit shelves a couple weeks from now.

Styles x miadidas Originals Superstar II

There was a period of time in the mid/late ’00s when adidas offered an array of ‘oddities’, classic models crafted in colors that in some cases seemed to clash, in most were indicative of advanced color study, and in all cases, drew a ton of attention to their wearers’ multi-colored feet.  Glimpses of this bold pre-recession style have been spotted here and there over the last few months as designers are starting to feel more adventurous again, and as was the case in 2006-’08, the Brand with the Three Stripes is leading the way with curious color combos.  Take for instance this new Styles x adidas Originals Superstar II crafted on the miadidas online customization service.  It’s something like an Alpha Kappa Alpha ice cream social where neopolitan is the flavor of the day; are they a tasty treat or something you’d leave on the ever-expanding buffet line that is the sneaker market?  Click through for more images, let us know what you think and then make your own, complete with custom side panel embroidery.

Nike LunarEclipse+ Anthracite Max Orange Volt

Still in its first version while some of Nike Running’s other LunarLon-cushioned kicks are in their second and third generations, the Nike LunarEclipse+ finds itself as one of the Swoosh’s longest running silhouettes as of this point in history. Their unique combination of breathable mesh and Flywire on the upper can be seen to foreshadow the unprecedented Flywire/Hyperfuse combo just unveiled on the LeBron 9 and this new black and Max Orange colorway isn’t too far off from having a Miami Heat-leaning look. Nike SB Zoom Harbor Blue Recall Midnight Navy

In the days before Stefan Janoski’s signature line debuted, the closest Swoosh Skateboarding got to a boat shoe design was the Nike SB Zoom Harbor.  In retrospect, this model has more classic skate DNA than docksider-derived style, but it’s still a clear example of classics rising to the top as transient fads are cast off over the years.  This latest edition maximizes its simple appeal with a tonal blue upper cast in Blue Recall and Midnight Navy tones, a pair that looks crisp and clean with white laces and vulc soles.  Click on through to see more angles and look for these at Nike SB retailers like Flatspot.

Nike Air Max 1 Aztec Grain Sail Ironstone

Much has changed with Nike Sportswear’s Aztec Pack since the initial images were previewed back in early August. Not only did new Air Max 90s and Dunk Highs join the set, but we also saw a significant difference between the first and second looks at the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Aztec’; will that translate to two separate releases? Here’s a closer look at the newer design, one that we absolutely know for certain is destined for retail because that’s the origin of these images. This combination of Grain and Ironstone is softer than the all-chocolate pair we first saw, a look greatly enhanced by the select use of blue along the patterned side panels. Let us know if these are the better AM1 Aztecs and look for yours at Nike Sportswear suppliers like Titolo.
