How is it that Nike Sportswear’s VNTG treatment has some sneakerheads up in arms but Converse can apply a similar effect to a variety of its classics and people gobble them up? This phenomenon is based in the differing levels of brand identification between the two with Nike far and away the industry leader, but you could also argue Converse is just doing theirs really well. The in-house team at the One Star takes a page from their still-in-progress book with John Varvatos and applies a blackened, almost grease-stained effect to the sole of this Converse Jack Purcell, a design whose crisp plaid uppers make it apparent that the grime on these is solely for character.
