Earlier today, Sneaker News detailed some of the release madness that surrounded the midnight drops of the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’. We know one spot did it right – the recently opened Nike Portland. Wristbands were given out the day prior and a special event at 7 AM was held for those who purchased the shoes; Air Jordan XIs were on display (OG and Retro Concords, Retro+ colorways like the ‘Snakeskin’) as was a rare sketch drawing of the Air Jordan XI. Tinker Hatfield, the designer of the massive cultural fashion phenomenon, was on hand to autograph Concord XI boxes for the event’s attendees. We’ve got some shots from the event from oregonlive and nikeblog so take a look at this great even and if you haven’t copped your Concords yet, pick up a pair now on eBay.

Is ‘Old Royal’ the new ‘it’ colorway for the Jordan Brand line? Thus far, the Air Jordan X, Jordan CMFT Air Max 10, and now the Jordan X Auto Clave will feature this slick combination of White and Old Royal, so the question is – What other Air Jordan shoe will this colorway look great on? The Air Jordan XI? How about an Air Jordan IV ‘Old Royal’? It’s a simple tandem of colors that exudes that collegiate flavor (it’s pretty much a ‘Kentucky’ colorway, but we all know UK is a LeBron-outfitted squad), giving the Jordan X Auto Clave a nice sporty flavor after the more lifestyle inspired tonal January 2012 releases. More angles await you below, so take a look and let us know what you think.

As we saw Nike Basketball designer Eric Avar and Kobe Bryant himself discussing the Nike Zoom Kobe VII System yesterday, it became apparent that the inspiration behind the Black Mamba’s latest signature was heavily based upon three striking predators. Combining the reptile appeal of the ZK6 with great white shark and leopard DNA produced a kind of ‘Kobe Skin’ that gives the Zoom Kobe 7 a unique texture, the same kind of look echoed on this sick new Kobe VII System Supreme Backpack that’ll be available at Nike Vault in Los Angeles on Christmas Day. Only 50 of these angular hard shell cases will be released starting at 9:30am local time, so if you time it just right you’ll be able to watch A Christmas Story, grab a backpack with the ‘Del Sol’ Zoom Kobe VII Supreme and be back in time for to see Kobe’s Lakers take on Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls as part of the NBA’s tip-off spectacular.

Is the best Reebok sneaker release of 2011 one that hasn’t even dropped yet? We’ll let you make the call in the Sneaker News 2011 Readers’ Choice Poll, but there’s no doubting the anticipation Extra Butter has managed to build up with their clever choice of inspiration and its execution. The Extra Butter x Reebok Pump AXT ‘Ahchoo’ takes its theme from Dave Chappelle’s supporting role in Mel Brooks’ Robin Hood: Men in Tights and their crew even reprised one of the film’s forest scenes in what might also be one of the very best sneaker-related videos to hit the net this year. The ‘Ahchoo’ Pump AXT will be available in store at midnight next Saturday, December 31st, with pairs to be made available online starting at 11am that morning.

We’ve seen quite a bit of Sneaker News this month surrounding the Nike Air Force 1 Bespoke experience, everything from wildly imaginative new designs to a new deluxe special production for 2012. The Air Force 1 Bespoke ‘Vachetta’ showed up last week sporting a deconstructed silhouette crafted in ultra-premium leather including the midsole and hand-rolled and stitched laces. The earliest tan, black and white pairs had us wondering if these might end up sticking with neutral tones, but this newest edition widens that inquiry to include all muted colors. Judging from the dusky faded blues in use on this new revelation, we certainly wouldn’t mind seeing sage green and soft burgundy, just to name a few. The first 30 customers to schedule an appointment to create a pair at 21 Mercer in New York will have theirs delivered in a reclaimed-fir-lined wooden box that’s been laser etched and custom sealed. You’ll get a sense for how deluxe these really are just by looking more closely at the photos after the jump, but to truly appreciate the craftsmanship you’ll have to set an appointment to create your own at Nike Sportswear’s NYC flagship. via Sneaker Freaker

February 2012 should be firmly circled on your calendar, because that’s when the Air Jordan IV ‘White/Cement’ will officially hit stores. In addition to the White/Cements as well as the ‘Old Royal’ Air Jordan X (and likely a Black History Month edition of the Air Jordan IV), we’ve got plenty of other Jordan Brand releases to look forward to, like these new high-energy colorways of the Air Jordan 1 Phat. The first Black/Action Green colorway has that ‘Altitude XIII‘ jive going on, while the Cool Grey/University Blue plays the role of UNC Tar Heel representative. We’ve got extra shots of both AJ1 Phats below (both dropping in February at $105), so take a look and stick with Sneaker News for more Jordan Brand February 2012 Release info.

Nikestore cleared out of its Adult and Kids stock in an hour. Thousands upon thousands of eager sneakerheads camped out all across the nation. Ordering from other online retailers may have resulted in the dreadful realization that “your session has timed out”, which was immediately followed by the worry of whether your order went through or not. Perhaps this was all expected for the release of the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’, which was easily the grandest, most anticipated, and most talked-about mass sneaker release of 2011 or perhaps the entire decade. It’s all fun and games – camping out with your fellow sneaker pals for hours, chatting about kicks and making new friends. Then, the unfortunate news of a rumored death (now proven false) in the Washington D.C. area related to the Concords forced us to revisit a time when footwear-related crimes were a serious issue in certain areas – even Sports Illustrated explored one of the most heinous acts of sneaker-robbery when in 1989, a 15-year-old was murdered, found in the woods, all for his Air Jordans. Riots, fights, and attempts to tear store-fronts down were reported in other cities, and nationwide news outlets made the Concord a story worth covering.
Sneaker releases like the Concord 11 isn’t the fuel, it’s the engine. Over the last four Decembers, the Air Jordan XI has been the marquee sneaker of the year, preceded by numerous other footwear releases during the 11 months and three weeks prior, and as the year slowly progresses, the typical sneakerhead’s focus reconfigures and thought processes evolve from “I’ll cop these now, but gotta have the Concords at the end of the year!” to “I need to save, need my Concords!”. The actual release may last under an hour, but the process actually spans an entire year and by January 1st, the Concord XI will have been ‘old news’ and the next December release will be the biggest discussion of the year – again. For now, check out a recap of the Air Jordan 11 Concord releases from some notable spots, and let us know how you copped your Concords. If you missed out, go the safer route and hit up eBay. The NBA lockout had the potential of wrecking havoc on the upcoming seasonal rotation of Nike’s signature basketball sneakers. Seeing NBA stars in action is about the best way to get the excitement over its signature products a-brewin’, but without these moving billboards, how would Nike market its product? Turns out, the marketing gurus at Nike haven’t lost a step, because the sales of its basketball products haven’t waned (in fact, they got a bit stronger), and in what some might call a serendipitous turn of events, NBA basketball announced its return on the most fitting day of the year – Christmas. It’s a day recognized for giving and receiving and celebrating with your closest family and friends, and this coming Sunday, there will be no better experience than un-wrapping some presents while watching Nike Basketball maestros Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Amare Stoudemire conduct their symphonies in front of a live audience. Of course, to commemorate the holiday, Nike Basketball will release its Nike Basketball Christmas 2011 Pack, going up for sale at midnight (talk about last-minute shopping); the Nike Zoom Kobe VII ‘Leopard’, Nike LeBron 9 ‘Christmas’, Nike Zoom KD IV ‘Metallic Bronze’, and Nike Air Max Sweep Thru ‘Christmas’ will all launch in the wee hours of the morning, so don’t miss out on the best present of the year.

Carmelo Anthony’s Jordan Melo M8 is his first signature shoe as full-time New York Knickerbocker. Rolled out in some great Knicks inspired colorways, the Melo M8 came out with a bang, with the memorable Jordan Melo M8 NYC Flight Event and Flight Lab 159 in October taking over New York City in a complete Melo take-over. Even December’s release of the Varsity Maize ‘Taxi’ version provided some nice home-town spirit, but nothing signifies a Jordan Brand model better than when it is directly inspired by an original Air Jordan III. Arriving at retailers this February 2012 is the Jordan Melo M8 inspired by the Air Jordan III Black/Cement; it features a black patent leather upper matched with Grey and Varsity Red details and the signature elephant print on the ankle collar that completes one of the sickest Jordan Melo colorways in history. Would you like to see more Air Jordan-inspired Melo M8s? Check out the images below and let us know what you think.
