Reebok Zig Encore Beyond the Gold

The timing of the NBA’s labor resolution was absolutely perfect, a deal to save an entire season that still preserved the league’s biggest annual television showcase.  Nike Basketball was emphasizing college hoops while the lockout endured, but were ready with Christmas Day 2011 PEs once a deal got done, and it sorta seemed like all the stars were aligned for a new era of labor peace in the Association.  But one guy whose timing has been a bit disrupted by the shortened regular season is Washington Wizards point guard John Wall, who expected to debut his Reebok Zig Encore ‘Beyond the Gold’ a bit earlier in the season.  These shiny golden Zig Encores are the follow-up to last November’s ZigTech Slash ‘Gold Rush’, and are similarly being held for Wall’s first game of the season in New York.  But unlike last year when that went down during the first week, the Wiz won’t venture up I-95 to Madison Square Garden until April; will you be on call for a lineup whenever the 12-pair briefcase-bound drop is scheduled?  Click through to see more of the ‘Beyond the Gold’ Zig Encore and stick with Sneaker News for the release date.  via Dime

Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 12/17 12/23

The Concords are here, the Concords are here! The biggest mass sneaker release of the year went down last night, as thousands of sneakerheads waited outside storefronts or in front of their computers, ready to claim their Concords once they became available. It was the perfect ending to one of the craziest weeks we’ve had on Sneaker News all year long. The lid on the Nike LeBron container exploded off, as we got a look at a slew of new colorways like the ‘Dunkman/Griffeys’ as well as the neck-breaking ‘Big Bang’ joints. Kobe Bryant sat down with Eric Avar to discuss the Kobe VII design, but Sneaker News quickly pointed out some upcoming colorways like the Poison Dart Frog and the ‘All-Star’. The Christmas Pack releases were also a hot topic of discussion, as four great holiday-themed colorways are currently set to drop on Christmas Day. Nike SB got into the mix, as we brought a thorough preview of Fall 2012 releases while introducing the P-Rod 6, the Challenge Court, and the FC x FP.

Celebs and NBA players were also a huge hit, as we caught a look at Wale and Justin Bieber in some heat, while LeBron James and a week’s worth of college ball-players stunned us with their on-court kicks. We finally got a nice side-profile look at the Air Yeezy 2, which last week was confirmed for a March 23, 2012 release. Ronnie Fieg’s last Asics collab or 2011 – the Mazarine Blue Gel Saga – has an official release date as well. In Foamposite news, we caught a look at a White/Silver PE of the Zoom Rookie worn by Penny himself, and Jason Negron set the bar even higher with his ‘Light-Up’ custom Foamposites. As we near the end of the 2011, Sneaker News is on a mission to determine the best sneakers of the year. How do we determine that? By introducing the second annual Sneaker News Readers’ Choice Poll, which features twenty different categories. Sneaker News has a ton of stuff for you for the remainder of the year, so check out the Sneaker News Weekly Rewind, vote in the Readers’ Choice Poll, and have a safe and happy Holiday weekend!

Jordan Brand Christmas 2011 Pack Release Reminder

2011 was quite a year for Jordan Brand’s three signature athletes. Carmelo Anthony went from West to East in a trade that sent him packing to New York City. Then, Dwyane Wade helped the Heat capture the Eastern Conference Championship and achieved his second NBA Finals appearance. Finally, Chris Paul was involved in another blockbuster trade that joined him with Los Angeles’ rising superstar Blake Griffin. While it may have been a hectic year for Jordan Brand, the Christmas holiday is a day or reflection (or for the three superstars, their 2011-12 NBA season debut). Releasing on Christmas Day is the Jordan Brand Christmas 2011 Pack, featuring the Jordan Melo M8 in Clover Green and Total Orange and the Jordan Fly Wade 2 in a tonal red. Missing in action is the Jordan CP3.V, which will debut in early January, but you’ll still see the Jordan CP3.V ‘Christmas’ during this Sunday’s games. Watch them in action on Christmas Day as all three Jordan Brand athletes will take the court in a much-anticipated opening tip-off of the season, and don’t forget to cop the Melos and Wades midnight at Nikestore on Christmas Day.

Jordan After Game II

You have your Air Jordans for rocking with your best ‘fits, then you have your Jordan Brand performance models for intense games of basketball or training. What about for those laid-back moments when you want to wear something crisp and clean without having to break out your most prized jewels? In comes the Jordan After Game II, a sequel to the After Game that dropped in early 2011; the After Game II capitalizes on the wide popularity of elephant print from the Air Jordan III and ties it in with a low-cut casual shoe that could actually perform just as well on the field thanks to the Max Air cushioned heel, ventilated upper, and ribbed comfort tongue. Three colorways are hitting stores this February, so take a look at all three below and let us know what you think.

Celebrity Feet: Justin Bieber Jordan Spizike Bordeaux

The Bieber phenomenon has reached international heights, but did you know he grew up a Canuck? Justin Bieber was recently in Toronto, Ontario for his Justin Bieber: Home For The Holidays Concert, where he serenaded his baby sister on state. On his way to the venue, Bieber was spotted with the upcoming Jordan Spiz’ike release, controversially dubbed the ‘Bordeaux’; following his recent Air Jordan III Black/Cement sighting in the music video with Mariah Carey, is the Biebz up on Jays now? The singer, mostly recognized in the sneaker community for rocking high-to Supras on stage, may have caught the Air Jordan bug (please, let us know what your opinion on that in the comments section). More clicks of Bieber below, so take a peek and chime in. via sandrarose/celebuzz.

Tinker Hatfield At Nike Portland For Concord 11 Release Event

Earlier today, Sneaker News detailed some of the release madness that surrounded the midnight drops of the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’. We know one spot did it right – the recently opened Nike Portland. Wristbands were given out the day prior and a special event at 7 AM was held for those who purchased the shoes; Air Jordan XIs were on display (OG and Retro Concords, Retro+ colorways like the ‘Snakeskin’) as was a rare sketch drawing of the Air Jordan XI. Tinker Hatfield, the designer of the massive cultural fashion phenomenon, was on hand to autograph Concord XI boxes for the event’s attendees. We’ve got some shots from the event from oregonlive and nikeblog so take a look at this great even and if you haven’t copped your Concords yet, pick up a pair now on eBay.

Jordan X Auto Clave White Old Royal

Is ‘Old Royal’ the new ‘it’ colorway for the Jordan Brand line? Thus far, the Air Jordan X, Jordan CMFT Air Max 10, and now the Jordan X Auto Clave will feature this slick combination of White and Old Royal, so the question is – What other Air Jordan shoe will this colorway look great on? The Air Jordan XI? How about an Air Jordan IV ‘Old Royal’? It’s a simple tandem of colors that exudes that collegiate flavor (it’s pretty much a ‘Kentucky’ colorway, but we all know UK is a LeBron-outfitted squad), giving the Jordan X Auto Clave a nice sporty flavor after the more lifestyle inspired tonal January 2012 releases. More angles await you below, so take a look and let us know what you think.

Nike Zoom Kobe VII System Supreme Backpack

As we saw Nike Basketball designer Eric Avar and Kobe Bryant himself discussing the Nike Zoom Kobe VII System yesterday, it became apparent that the inspiration behind the Black Mamba’s latest signature was heavily based upon three striking predators.  Combining the reptile appeal of the ZK6 with great white shark and leopard DNA produced a kind of ‘Kobe Skin’ that gives the Zoom Kobe 7 a unique texture, the same kind of look echoed on this sick new Kobe VII System Supreme Backpack that’ll be available at Nike Vault in Los Angeles on Christmas Day.  Only 50 of these angular hard shell cases will be released starting at 9:30am local time, so if you time it just right you’ll be able to watch A Christmas Story, grab a backpack with the ‘Del Sol’ Zoom Kobe VII Supreme and be back in time for to see Kobe’s Lakers take on Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls as part of the NBA’s tip-off spectacular.
