The ‘Weatherman’ and ‘Nerf’ colorways are among the most fun and inventive basketball sneaker designs released in all of 2011, but now that the NBA is finally playing its regular season, it’s time to see the Nike Zoom KD IV in a wider variety of Oklahoma City Thunder-inspired palettes. Let’s have a closer look at the Midnight Navy and Team Orange edition we first previewed early Tuesday morning, a palette that’s drawing as many ‘Denver Broncos’ comparisons as Thunder comments thanks to its uncharacteristically dark appearance. The detailing on OKC’s logo is done in dark blue as is the trim on their jerseys, though this often appears black under the bright lights of NBA arenas. That means these are a nice compliment if not entirely obvious, and you can see more of how they’ll match up with the Thunder’s (road?) uniforms in more photos after the jump. via mrrsports.

The sneaker culture experienced some big forward leaps in 2011, with Jordans and Nikes becoming more than ‘sneakerhead’ style, but instead a universal must-have among all celebrities. We saw quite a bit of Celebrity Feet here on Sneaker News, but Complex just put together their own list of the twenty best Celebrity Sneaker Moments of the year. Right off the bat, supermodel Kate Upton and her Air Jordan VIIs made the list, so that makes this list worth flipping through! Check out some of the inclusions of Complex’s 20 best celebrity sneaker moments below and let us know who you think deserves the top spot – and hit up Complex for the full feature.

The ’112′ devised by DJ Clark Kent has been one of the more popular specialty colorways over the last few years, but sneakerheads have to resort to custom jobs like this magnificent Air Jordan VI to get their hands on a pair! The typically Friends-and-Family only nature of the ’112′ may be somewhat of a turn-off to some, but if you have some time and steady brushing hand, you can create sick customs like El Cappy’s Air Jordan VI ’114′ Custom. El Cappy chose to add two to the ’112′ for his own unique take on the design, which features a matte black upper, neon green piping and dyed soles, and elephant print on the ‘windows’ on the upper. Will we ever see a ’112′ Air Jordan? This custom is definitely a first step. Check out the extra shots below and let us know what you think.

Is Monta Ellis the ‘Gilbert Arenas’ of the 2011-12 NBA Season? Gilbert stole the NBA show last year by wearing a sick pair of sneakers for nearly every game. Without an shoe contract keeping him to the confines of one logo, Agent Zero went haywire and broke out Jordan Retros, Nike Retros, Reeboks, and even a pair of Dolce & Gabbana luxury high-tops. Golden State Warriors’ scoring beast Monta Ellis could very well take that role this year, as he was spotted during NBA Media Day wearing the Air Jordan 8.0. Hardly a newsworthy sighting, but Monta was an AND1 fella for some time, and his switch over the Air Jordans could spell out an interesting story arc for this season. Just last night, Monta wore the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’, proving that white and/or black matches with anything. Check out Monta’s Concords below and let us know if you think Monta’s got a sick collection! via Yahoo!.

Derrick Rose stuck a dagger in the depleted Lakers on Christmas Day, and while it wasn’t a victory of the same magnitude as another famous Bull’s triumph against Showtime some twenty and one-half years earlier, it did indeed prove once more that the league’s reigning MVP can come out on top against event the most elite competition. And if Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, both former MVPs, can have multiple Nike Basketball signatures running in parallel, it only seems right to give young D-Rose his due and continue expanding his Three Stripes empire. The adidas adiZero Rose 773 focuses specifically on a certain section of Chi-town Rose calls home (at least its name, anyway). The design is somewhat sleeker than the already-svelte adiZero Rose flagship line, but this white pair carries with it a comparable level of detail thanks to the multi-gauge perforations running down either side from the toe. Click through for another look and let us know if you’d rather have these or one of the other Derrick Rose adidas, and keep your eyes peeled for updates before the fall/winter 2012 drop date. via RegularOlTy

The Air Jordan XII looks to have such a rousing 15th birthday this year that one of its new variations has spilled over into the other Air Jordan Legacy model currently making the Retro rounds. The Jordan X Auto Clave is the Ten’s answer to the AJXII Clave, this design more closely resembling the 1995 original than its older sibling’s version. The Jordan 10 Clave is almost line-for-line the same as the OG AJX, just with a vulcanized sole, though this all-Varsity Red edition is like nothing we’ve ever seen from that model. Are we looking at a formidable new entrant into the lifestyle sneaker market, or do you prefer Jordan Brand’s sportier hybrid releases? Click through for a closer view and pick up this January 2012 release now at select retailers like ExtraButter.

First LeBron James chose his designs for the initial facade at UNKNWN, then King James picked Freegums’ Nike LeBron 9 collabo to compliment the Miami Heat’s white jerseys during their home opener Tuesday at American Airlines Arena. It’s clear LBJ approves of MIA-native Alvaro Ilizarbe’s handstyles, and now the LeBron 9 he so deftly lined is being released as this year’s birthday tribute to one of the great talents the game of basketball has ever seen. This detail-rich design stands out precicely because its high contrast good looks can hold their own even away from the hardwood, and they’re sure to draw lines upon the New Years Eve release at select Nike Basketall stockists like Extra Butter. Have a closer look at some new images after the jump including the intricate tissue paper in which they’ll be wrapped, and if you can’t wait until the day after ‘Bron’s b-day to grab yours, secure a pair right now on eBay.

Plenty of sneaker designs have been based on adult beverages over the past few years, but there’s only one store who’ll release a collaboration for which you’ll actually have to be carded. Barcelona’s 24 Kilates is famous for authoring the Tres ZZZ Asics Gel Lyte Speed that came packaged with a traditional wineskin and a bottle of Spanish red wine, and they’re back at it again, this time with a different brand known for its classic runners. The 24 Kilates x New Balance ML581 is inspired by El Camino de Santiago or St. James’ Way, a pilgrimage route that ends at the cathedral where the saint was supposedly laid to rest. Along with the hunting-style NB581s, you’ll get 70mL bottles of Los Peperetes coffee and herbal liqueur distilled with water from the nearby Galacian estuaries, plus a couple tins of food that might be too ‘fancy’ to consume (octopus in olive oil, anyone?). Click through to see more of this palette-expanding collabo, let us know how they compare to the other ML581 collabos we’ve seen so far, and get ready for these to arrive at select retailers on Saturday, January 7th.

Converse is the latest to offer a Year of the Dragon sneaker, this latest look one of the more intricate takes on its all-time classic and one that arrives right on time with Chinese New Year just over two weeks out. The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Leather Hi ’Year of the Dragon’ Edition takes on the look of fine China porcelain thanks to a blue and white dragon-laden upper that adds a special top eyelet and lizard-like insoles to complete the theme. A second pair opts for a more colorful route with red, yellow and green hits applied throughout the more weathered looking of the two pairs, and switches up its footbed design to reflect the change. Expect both pairs at select Converse retailers this week and click through to see more detailed images in the meantime. via FRESHNESS
