The Spiz’ike is probably Jordan Brand’s most successful hybrid design to date, and arguably one of the best mashup sneakers ever concieved. We’re coming off a high tide in late 2011 that saw the impressive ‘Knicks Pack’ hit retail along with the first preview images of the ‘Bordeaux’ edition, but even with that kind of momentum, it appears another Spike Lee-inspired hybrid will take the reigns this year. Our latest look at the upcoming Jordan Son of Mars comes in a familiar colorway that the Spizike had also slightly altered, a ‘Grape’ AJV-leaning palette that really emphasizes the fact that the Son of Mars is built upon the Five’s foundation. But these don’t offer any Aquatone or other teal shades to get the full effect (nor do they add red like the Spiz’ikes), so the end result is a fresh twist, just like seeing design elements from Air Jordans III-VI plus XX combined in this new configuration.
