The mayhem surrounding the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ came to a boiling point last night, as various House of Hoops locations across the nation experienced immeasurable discord and dystopia that required intervention by police authorities. In reaction to the events and keeping the security and safety of the community in mind, Foot Locker released official information regarding the cancellation of the Nike All-Star releases at a number of their House of Hoops locations. The Galaxy Foamposites have generated an immense of amount of popularity that perhaps Nike and the retail locations did not anticipate, and sellers looking to cash in on the craze have begun to list their pick-ups on eBay – with one auction (most likely a guff listing) garnering an inordinate amount of attention that will likely see a final bid of over $100,000 (those Blackout XIs seem like a bargain now, don’t they?).
Up until last night, the release of the Pigeon SB Dunk was considered the most notorious sneaker release of this generation, but just to give you an idea of how it pales in comparison – there were many ‘Pigeon SB Dunk’ situations going on within one location, and what saddens the entire ordeal is that the shoe in question never even made it outside the store! Continue reading for the official press release by House of Hoops for all the cancelled spots (so you don’t head out there with high hopes) and let us know if the Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ is the most notorious sneaker release of all-time.
Update 2/24, 10:45am EST: Due to safety concerns, the Foot Locker House of Hoops stores in South Park Mall and Crabtree Valley Mall are canceling the All-Star releases this weekend (product list below). Our priority is the safety of the community. Thank you for your understanding. The following Foot Locker House of Hoops stores have also canceled the All-Star releases: Florida Mall, Pembroke Mall, University Mall in Tampa, Southlake Mall and PG Plaza.
We must stop this madness!!! Don't buy any of the Resellers Foamposite Galaxies. Your just gonna push the prices up for future resellers. Nike should re-release the Galaxy Foams as a general release online and in-store at Footlocker, Footaction, Champs, Eastbay and at the nike store.
I like the commentator's idea of having them auctioned off on ebay for charity.....but I would like to state that this isn't some very special release like the Air Mags.....and I doubt Nike would want to auction off there shoes knowing that ebay would probably gonna get a chunk of their sales through fees......Until Nike decides to change their way of doing business with these exclusive/limited releases, I predict that the riots will continue for the foreseeable future.....Its the nature of the beast whether anyone likes it or not......and then it comes down to how much and badly do you want them for at an inflated price?
The issue here is NOT weather or not people want to spend their money on sneakers. The issue is that Nike hypes up these shoes for months at sites directed at urban youth, then they only supply maybe 5% of the demand. They do this several times a year in hopes of creating a false sense of demand for their other products. Stores let people camp out for weeks, endangering the campers as well as the general public. The store in florida had over 3000 people outside but never told anyone that there were only 150 pairs available. Purchasing at Nike.com has been made impossible because on every release, the site crashes and you end up wasting hours online for no reason. This has been going on for over two years. Being able to purchase a sneaker from Nike on a release night is like hitting the lottery. The people at nike are very stupid. If a shoe sells on ebay for $1500 that means nike just lost $1300 in profit because that money went to ebay instead of Nike. While they are a profitable company, they could reap more profit, have happier customers, and a safer public by producing enough shoes and wider distribution so people dont have to drive hours away and camp in the streets to get them. Nike however enjoys all the negative press they get because it makes them look like a great company who's products cause riots....They fail to mention that they market particular products to millions of kids and then only distribute 5000 of them
You guys can't blame just kids for overhyping and reselling, I see grown ass men buying shoes all the time just to resell them. Hell if your so mad about not being able to grab your pair, have a backup plan, but don't sit on the internet complaining, blaming other people because you couldn't get your pair.
Southlake is gonna be bananas, when the shoes drop. Every major shoe release at Southlake gets cancelled smh.
What's the point of having websites for eastbay, footlocker, champ sports, and other shops when they're all run by the same company and all use the same stock. It's fucking stupid! Fuck this shit, I'm off Nike for a while. I might pick up a retro or two this year, but imma just stock up on NBs, Pumps, Asics, and some others that I've been neglecting cuz of the swoosh. Time to diversify and get some cool shit, not the hyped up shit.
This is all Nike. If they made more and released more - problem solved. Instead they put the kids and sneakerheads in danger to create hype, simple as that. Do you think they ran out of galaxy material? This ever increasing hype and decreasing supply is killing what used to be a great brand.
imma start wearing payless in hood so a nigga dont jack me lol jk. but nike stores should organize the passing of shoe more appropriately and make more shoes
I would be scared out of my mind to be a Foot Locker or a HoH employee on one of these release nights.
I was out der at pines mall. LMFAO to many posers in south florida. Nikkas dont got no swagg and no heart.
Nike can prevent all of these violent scenarios just by making the shoe available to anyone that wants a pair. I wish someone would hold them (nike) accountable for creating these types of environments, getting people robbed and killed. Hey here's an idea Let's ban together and not buy their products, Remeber people, WE MAKE THEM WHO THEY R, Not the other way around.
Just drop them with no release date. Just like back in the day. Drop them random and the only way you found out was word f mouth. But in the society we live there is always a dick that opens they mouth on forums smh. Look at the banned 1s. I don't see riots for no QS sb like the space jam joints last year or te shrimp joints. Maybe the what the dunk and supreme blazers people camped out and the pigeons that's a whole different story but it should go the same for Js and foams drop with no release date.
Nike can solve this problem by not making it a limited release and set it up like the air mags do it auction style and donate to charity. I would rather see the prices soar and go to charity than go to resellers. At least $800 over the retail price would go to charity.
Lets be real here, the reason things turned out the way they did was because of sneaker websites. Including this one,day after day they would show pics or write something about them, throwing more gas to the fire. Believe me,If it wasnt for all these sites boosting the hype, the turn out would of probably been different. People come on here and criticize each other for being hypebeast, but if liking a sneaker and talking about it is being a hypebeast, then we are all giulty and are all considered one as well. If you ask me,the biggest and notorious hypebeasts are the website writers. Think about it!
yeah Nike keep on doing those kind of marketing moves and limit the production and release of sneakers...you will reach a 40billion profit for 2012 :) and all the sneakers addict will have a huge asshole being butt fucked so many times and being treated like homeless by camping out 2 o 5 days for a piece of rubber !!!! :)
Blame the news for fucking getting in on the sneaker hype telling everyone this is way to make money. These are a once in a year type shoe. So make you're $2500, why real people that work make their $30,000 plus. get a f**kin life.
Mane anyone who would pays more than $20 above box price is a sucker. I'm sorry, but being a sneaker head isn't about how rare your kicks are. it's about a progression of style and pushing the creativity of how you rock them to new levels. That's why most of you dudes are scared to be yourself waiting for the next man to tell you whats hot. style comes from the heart not from the pages on this or any other website.....
its not true, hoh at florida mall has been selling them all day, you had to wait in line this morning, but you can just walk in and get them now.
Ain't enough competition for hypebeast dollars that's why every Jordan/Nike Basketball quickstrike causes chaos. There's no special SB's or Bape's to distract them that's why they jump on Foams and Jordan XI's
I'd buy the metallic red, retro (electric) blue, pine green, pearl and pewter foams before I'd buy the 'galaxy' joints.
Nike could care less about hype or demand it's their job to make shoes that the public wants. Because for the same amount of people thatwnat the shoes you have 3 times as many that could care less about a shoe. It was 15 pair that the store had, no one store gets 150 pairs of anything exclusive. Again, Nike could care less about ebay sales they are a multi-billion dollar company. On ebay for every 1 pair of $1500 shoes that might sell you still have a number of other people still waiting to sell their's and that might not happen for weeks or months, so that is not a margin that no company wants to have their financial division running thier numbers off of.
Did your back up plan work... I doubt it because there is no back up plan. Did you get your Galaxy's I doubt it...
Nike makes it impossible to purchase. The site is worthless. The distribution is a joke bc no stores have the shit to buy. How do you have a backup plan?????Become a celebrity? Get fkn real.
at leat if they made enough to last a half hour online ...problem solved.....still limited but no one has to get hurt to buy a pair
Well said , but you know that will never happen the youth of today have been under the brainwashing and mind control of the mass media for far too long to say no to Nike or any other big brand that tells them "YOU NEED THIS AND YOU NEED THESE".
in theory increasing product volume could work, but once people hear about there being more pairs available for a hot release than normal, even more people will wait in line for them, and we're back to square one with riots . It's like trying to suggest Ferrari should produce more cars so people will stop trying to steal them. Things don't work out that way though, and as long as something with buzz and hype behind it has a price tag, some idiot will always try to get it for free. the best way for this problem to be solved is to re-educate everyone on what the game is about. It isn't about buying into this hype crap and trying to screw everyone over with ridiculous eBay prices, the game has always emulated the core value of the fashion industry (not just sneakers) itself, in that it's meant for self expression. Your kicks are supposed to represent your individual fashion sense, your individual tastes, not the fact that you wasted a week of your life waiting in line for it, or God forbid the fact you actually took another human being's life/trampled over people for it. to sum it all up, Nike isn't the main problem, we, the sneaker community are. It's time we stop the violence over sneakers.
I like your idea i didnt get so pissed watchin the mags go crazy bc it was for a good cause. This is just disgusting buncha scumbag resellers buying the "galaxy foam-deposites" to make some money off real sneaker heads. SMFH
Don't even make a charity event just put the shoes in stores and have the prices at $800 and don't ever let the price be known then, we will see who the true sneakerheads are and who the broke ballin' outta' control resllers are along with the wannabe's.
No, these things turn out the way they do because of demand. Like with ANY hot item in demand (not just sneakers, i'm talking PS3s, clothing, heck, check how the NYSE floor is like in the mornings), the results are the same.
I was out there 2 frm 3 - 1030.. Shit was terrible but I jus left Mondawmin n dey only had 45 pairs n 1000 ppl n da police randomly chose ppl 2 cop
you know what;s funny, The same people camping out and lining up, would'nt do the same for a JOB!!!!
In those different scenarios you named there is a method to their madness. The stores have dealt with big releases on many occasions and have yet to figure out to handle the situation when it goes south. Plus they don't care about the shoe releasing on time because they know they are going to sale regardless of the time or day it goes on sale. Clothes such as streetwear are usually done at that particular brands store and how many of those do you have that have dropped a t shirt that has caused damn near riot.
Right I went to Mondawmin in Baltimore same thing except police picked people at random which was bs
Hell No!!! They wouldn't wait in line for a job or school, hell more than half of them skipped school to camp out.
