SN march madness bracket 2012 play in Sneaker News March Madness Non OG Air Jordan Tournament Play In Round

March is here and that means it’s time for our annual Sneaker News March Madness tournament where we pit some of the all-time sneaker greats against each other on the road to one shoe’s eventual championship supremacy. Last year, we let the most beloved original Air Jordan colorways battle it out, with the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ emerging as your choice for G.O.A.T. This year, we’re taking the next logical step and will have the very best in non-OG Air Jordan colorways facing off to see which is the king of them all. While we all love the OG’s, there’s no denying that there have been some serious neck-breakers to stray from the traditional Air Jordan color schemes over the years, so on diversity alone, things should get pretty interesting once this year’s action gets underway.

With college teams fighting through their conferences this week with their NCAA tournament lives on the line, we thought we’d further amp things up for our tourney this year by adding a play-in round to let our readers determine the final additions to the bracket field. We have 24 selections already locked in place, but as you can imagine, there are a lot of worthy competitors, so you will decide from 24 additional selections which 8 will survive to claim a place in the big dance. The bubble selections are divided into four groups with the top two vote-getters in each grouping moving on to the tournament. You will get two votes per group, so make them count. As you can see from the choices below, there’s some pretty stiff competition right out of the gate, so you can only imagine what’s waiting for these contenders in the main event. Voting for the play-in round will remain open until 5pm EST on Sunday with the winners to be announced later that night. Check out the 2012 bubble kicks after the jump and voice your opinion by casting votes for your favorites.

Earlier today Sneaker News gave you a first look at the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite in the ‘Home’ colorway that is currently set for a May release. Going back even later is the third and final installment of the ‘Poison Dart Frog’ Pack, which is tentatively set to release in June (the ‘Mint Candy’ drops in April while the ‘Lakers’ follows in May). The Red/Blue/Black features the tri-color adaptation of the poison dart frog’s aposematic outer skin with a solid blue midsole and white outsole in a colorway that could actually be dubbed the ‘Spiderman’. Ironically, this colorway is in fact the perfect Los Angeles colorway, but for that team not named the Lakers! Check out the full shot after the jump and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for more exclusive Nike Zoom Kobe VII info and updates.

Air Jordan IX – Holiday 2012 Retros

It hasn’t even been two years since the Air Jordan IX saw a mass release, but it appears that Jordan Brand was just taking a prolonged break. We’ve got some more Air Jordan Retro releases confirmed for Holiday 2012, so if the confirmation of the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’ was too much to handle, you might not be able to bear this excitement. According to reliable source TheAFoot on NT, what’s expected to arrive this December is the Air Jordan IX ‘Cool Grey’, a Retro release that first dropped in 2002 that featured a two-hit combo of nubuck and patent leather on the upper. Along with the Cool Grey’s another classic color will make a return as the Olive colorway will also make a return in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Also confirmed is a Black/Blue colorway for November, and a special Johnny Kilroy edition in Black/Metallic Silver for October 2012. For those unaware of who Johnny Kilroy is: Kilroy was a fictional basketball player – an identity that Michael Jordan assumed during his first retirement from the NBA. This character was the subject of one of the best Air Jordan commercials of all-time, which featured comedian Steve Martin as an investigative reporter that was researching Kilroy, his true identity, and the possibility of Jordan faking his retirement. In any case, Sneaker News will keep you up to date on these upcoming Retro releases, so let us know your thoughts in the comments area below.

While Victor Cruz hasn’t officially signed on as a Jordan Brand NFL athlete, he sure is doing a great job at advertising his logo on his feet free of charge. Victor Cruz, a Paterson, NJ native, was spotted sitting courtside at the Nets/Clippers game last night wearing the Air Jordan V Black/Metallic Silver Retro. Cruz, who has been all smiles since the beginning of the 2011 NFL Season, is basking his meteoric rise to fame – one that is certainly well-deserved. We’ve got some additional angles of Victor Cruz in his kicks after the jump so take a look! via sandrarose/ESPN

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite Packaging

The Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite has been one of the top trending topics in the sneaker game at the moment, a shoe that revealed a number of tech upgrades as well as a $60 price increase from the Attack Fast release of the Kobe System. While that bump in price seems rather heady, the LeBron 9 to LeBron 9 P.S. Elite beats that increase by $10, as the $170 LeBron 9 will shoot up to an MSRP of $250 for the Elite, currently set for a debut in April 20th (starting with the ‘Away’ Black/Gold colorway. While no pictures of the Elite 9 have surfaced just yet, we can make some educated guesses on what the shoe could possibly entail if we were to extrapolate the Kobe VII Elite details onto the LeBron. What we do have here is a look at the box packaging of the LeBron 9 P.S. Elite, which features the carbon fiber graphic pattern and a rainbow-holographic effect on the LJ crown logo on the upper face of the box. This particular box is for an Energy release, with a colorway marked as Wolf Grey/Minty Candy-New Green-Pink Flash. Do these pink laces point a South Beach-like colorway? Check out the images of the box below and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for more updates on the LeBron 9 P.S. Elite. via pr_again/MN

Nike Graphic Studio Show 2.0

nike graphic studio art show march 2012 Nike Graphic Studio Show 2.0

Oregon is Nike central, so when the Nike Graphic Studio Show was opened during the Compound Gallery’s opening on the first Thursday of last September, it received the biggest crowd on an opening Thursday ever. Granted, if the Nike Graphic Studio Show was a traveling exhibit (hint, hint), Nike fanatics would come out in droves, and we’re certain those who attended last year’s events as well as a newer batch of the curious will attend the Nike Graphic Studio Show 2.0, scheduled to open its doors on March 17th at a larger venue. This year’s focus will be on March Madness, pitting ‘Old School’ against ‘New School’ in a sick display of Nike creativity created by a select group of Nike designers. Additionally, proceeds from the event will benefit Self Enhancement, Inc.. Will you attend? Jot down the event information and don’t miss out.
