The Nike Air Kukini is most often remembered as one of the funkiest sneaker designs in Nike history, but there certainly is a reason behind the strange design – the Kukini was designed for triathletes. The caged upper locked the foot in while the mesh keep air-flow and ventilation to a maximum without having the need for a conventional lacing system. Simply put, the Kukini was a top-flight performing slip-on sneaker. The Kukini returned in 2012 with the advanced Nike Free 5.0 outsole, giving the shoe even more of a ‘foot-form’ appeal, and this detailed look at the Soar/Cyber and Black/Anthracite USA Track & Field colorway showed that even in its semi-original state, the Kukini can still bang with the big boys. The Kukini Free has begun to trickle out to sneaker retailers overseas and should hit the States very soon, so check out these detailed angles below and let us know if you’ll be copping the Kukini Free.
