Jason Kidd has two Olympic gold medals to go along with his hard-earned NBA Championship ring, and he might have captured a third gold had Dream Team II not been so stocked with veteran talent. So instead of following up his Rookie of the Year season with an All-Star starting appearance in 1996 and a trip to Atlanta that summer, Kidd just got overlooked by USA Basketball and was shipped out of Dallas soon into his third season. This new Nike Zoom Uptempo V ‘USA’, then, represents a trip back in time where J-Kidd might have taken his ’96-97 signature to an early debut at the centennial Games. So perhaps it’s poetic if unfortunate that this AP favorite might not even make it to US Nike Sportswear retailers, especially considering it doesn’t seem to be lumped in with all their other USAB celebratory fare we’re expecting in the coming months. Let us know if you’ll buy these if they make it stateside and stick with Sneaker News for updates on all the Olympic retros this summer. Photos: HC
