Nike Institutes New ‘Twitter RSVP’ Release System

The hottest new smartphone, the revolutionary video-game console, the blockbuster movie-ticket, and even the delicious fast food burger joint has all been ‘camped out’ for (In-N-Out does that to you). Camp-outs and the occasional riotous behavior are nothing new to the sneaker game, but what has changed for certain is the population of sneakerheads, which has experienced an immense growth over the last decade. It’s never a pretty sight as the disappointed will always outnumber the satisfied, and in light of the recent mayhem that occurred during the Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ release, Nike has decided to take preventative measures to ensure the safety of all involved – consumers, retailers, and local police authorities.

Nike introduces the new ‘Twitter RSVP’ system – a digital means to ensure your pair of a hot upcoming release without the painstaking process of waiting outdoors for extended periods of time. The new Twitter RSVP system is fairly simple; Nike will designate a ‘RSVP Date’, and will begin the RSVP process at a random time on that allocated date. Those who respond in time with the necessary information will have secured a pair of sneakers once Nike’s Twitter responds (full information on the entire process below). Seems rather easy, doesn’t it? There is one glaring pitfall in this process – not everyone has a Twitter account. However, online release will remain the way they are, so for now, nobody will truly be left out, and the RSVP system should alleviate some of the heavy traffic that Nikestore experiences during these major midnight releases.

In addition to the introduction of the Twitter RSVP system, Nike has also banned midnight in-store releases as well as pre-orders for said midnight releases, and instead suggested to retailers a raffle/lottery system that would essentially wipe out any incentive of camping out for a sneaker release ahead of a release. Again, these measures have been taken by Nike to ensure the overall safety of its consumers, retailers, and the local authorities, but we do know these new guidelines are effective immediately, meaning it could happen as soon as this Saturday’s release of the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’. Your thoughts on Nike’s strategy to battle sneaker camp-outs? Is the sneaker camp-out a thing of the past? Get your thoughts in below in our comments section, and check out Nike’s full Press Release for the Twitter RSVP system below.

NIKE STORE LAUNCHES – TWITTER RSVP

Twitter RSVP is used to help manage product launches at Nike Stores. Follow your local Nike Store on Twitter for launch announcements and frequent updates.

The Twitter RSVP Process:

  • On the RSVP date, our store will send a tweet at a random time to begin our Twitter RSVP process, including a product specific hashtag (#tag).
  • Once registration is open, you must Direct Message (“DM”) the store within 60 minutes. The DM must include:
    1. The product-specific #tag tweeted by the store
    2. The last 4 digits of your State/Passport/Military/School ID number
    3. Your shoe size (limit one).
  • Confirmations from the store will be sent via DM to those who have successfully secured their requested size.  Shoes will be awarded on a “first respond, first serve” basis.
  • Confirmed recipients must pick up their product (in person w/ identification) from the store on the day of launch. Unclaimed product will be announced on Twitter and will be re-released at the store’s discretion.

How do you properly RSVP through DM? Here’s an example:

  • Store Tweet:
    Twitter #RSVP is now open for the Air Foamposite One.#Electrolime
  • Consumer Response (DM):
    #Electrolime, 4253, 10.5(For more information about sending a DM, see the Twitter Help Center.)

Twitter RSVP Terms and Conditions:

  • One item allowed per person, even if you receive two confirmations of successful registrations. Abuse of this rule may result in denial of purchase or entry to future launches.
  • Confirmed recipients must provide a valid ID that matches the last 4 digits used for RSVP.
  • Size cannot be changed once it has been confirmed to a person through Twitter RSVP.
  • Resell or trade of Twitter RSVP confirmation is prohibited.
  • Twitter RSVP confirmation is not transferable and not redeemable for cash or for credit towards any purchase.
  • Lines will not be allowed to form outside the store for this release.
  • Launch process is always subject to change at any time at the discretion of Nike, Inc.

I agree with you. Forget about Geneva. We have to reconcile with Sinhalese and Muslims berofe power-sharing in Sri Lanka. I accept we have conflict among us but Indian made it worse in 1987 and now American making the situation lot more muddy.I will place my view soon. we are idiots chasing the mirage in intellectual Sahara desert.kind regards

What will nike do for people from places like Maryland or middle America who are not anywhere near any of these accounts. Seems unfair to completely forget about them!

I'm waiting for the pre-order policy to be implemented. Thats where consumers can order their shoes before production. Leave the ordering open for a week or so. Then Nike will have a notion for the demand and know how many pairs to produce. Sh!t, I wouldn't mind paying for my, Olympics, Gold Medal Pack, Raptors, Bred XI's etc, a couple of months in advance to make sure I get em. If that happened reselling, campers, and robbers would be S.O.L. lol....

DatKidFELIX
DatKidFELIX

Great Idea. That would destroy those markets including the pre-sellers. I would go a step further and say have it where you can pay for whatever shoe out at the time and its always available and if it is a colorway or style isn't currently unavailable then they make it and you wait a few weeks and pay extra like NikeID..

I can't like this enough TIMES! Great idea.

Most of the stuff people camp out for usually isn't my thing anyway (maybe except for a few exceptions). So therefore, these guidelines probably would not have that much of a profound effect on me. Yes, it makes it safer, and puts an onus on the resellers, to a certain degree. But i hate it for the real heads that have to deal with all this new rigamarole just to get the shoe they want.

@M_AbveAverage

Why can't they create a points system based on purchases of shoes/apparel on a normal basis. So resellers wouldn't just rush out when the "Big" release happens i.e. concords. They would have to buy normal releases all through out the year. Once a shoe is about to release you will have a period to put your name on a list that will be dictated by your points. Heres how I imagine it. 5 Points: for apparel purchases over 50 dollars 10 points: Any shoe release over 100 dollars 20 points: Any shoes over 200 dollars *You only get points for different models you purchase, this way a reseller couldn't just buy 10 pairs of foamposites and compound the points on one release. Retailers win cause they can finally get rid of some of that apparel they don't sell normally. They also get customers to stick with them for repeat purchases.

John K.
John K.

Not sure if Nike will implement that, but chain retailers with existing "member" cards (like the Foot Locker VIP) could easily use your proposed points system to give out "first dibs".

reub

but then people who can only afford the few pairs of shoes they want a year (16 year olds like me with weekend jobs) would barely be able to cop any kicks

Why can't it be like how it used to be...General release for all consumers! I'm so sick and tired of limited quickstrike exclusive releases.. Nike please make enough for everyone!!

lol the funny thing is that its only for nike stores and i know plenty of stores that get the limited shit to and ill still see people camping out so it not over yet .

SoCalFresh619
SoCalFresh619

Its a good idea for them to do this because it keeps people safe and honestly all you people saying fake sneaker heads are the cause well it takes a fake sneaker head to call some one a fake sneaker head because real sneaker heads don't say shit and do what they got to do.

@keezyb89
@keezyb89

it only keeps nike locations safe what about all the other places they send the shoes in Maryland we only have the house of hoops and the Galaxy release all hell broke loose because of the police and the store nike knows what they are doing

Everyone - Verified accounts can send and receive DM's to/from anyone - regardless of if they are following you. No worries, bros.

I have been getting closer and closer to making a Jay-Z like retirement from the sneaker game, and this just pushed me another step! I'm getting tired of all the madness n extra things that the game has become... I dont want to jump in my rocking chair, but I remember the 80s & 90s, the Golden age of sneakers! Now its come to this, for a lesser watered down product... U may still catch me out there for those personal grail type releases. Until then, best wishes to all that continue to feed this MONSTER!
