The Duanwu Festival kicks off in China on Saturday, June 23rd, but it’s also known as the ‘Double Fifth’ for being the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. This celebration of the approximate summer solstice is particularly relevant in this Year of the (Water) Dragon, and the New Balance HS77 custom job pictured above reflects both of those themes in addition to the evolution of a concept by one artist. Zhijun Wang‘s ‘Dragon Boat Festival’ HS77 follows up on his spectacular laser-etched Air Force 1 Lows with a red-accented watery look that adds scales and waves in honor of its muse. Have a closer look at them after the jump, let us know where these compare to the Wang’s YOTD AF1s and stick with Sneaker News for the best custom sneaker designs from around the world.
