You’ve probably referred to them more often as a ‘hairpin turn’, but if you give the word ‘switchback’ a literal exegesis, you might find that it’s a more accurate description of what happens on those twisty roads. Road and rail engineers would ‘switch’ the course of their path ‘back’ across treacherous mountains, but you could choose to head straight to the peak thanks to the rugged style of the Vans Switchback. This boot born of the California collection offers a bit of that classic oxford/plimsoll look but with considerably more reinforcement than, say, an Authentic, and these two suede colorups for fall look the part of a go-to trail shoe.
