Sneaker Con NYC June 2012 – Event Recap

The last Sneaker Con venue was bursting at the seams, as it could not contain the mass crowd that showed up to take part in the best sneaker event of its kind. So, the event moved uptown and a bit East as Sneaker Con took over a collegiate-sized gymnasium as Baruch College opened its doors to host the biggest NYC event in history! The gym was packed front to back with amazing vendors showing off their collections and with a special preview showcase of adidas Originals’ upcoming gear, and even a number of notable sneakerheads in the game popped through, like Ed Lover, Iman Shumpert of the New York Knicks, Jack Ballard of the New England Patriots, DJ Clark Kent, Mayor and All Day. The line was hundreds deep hours before the doors opened, but luckily the venue was large (and cool) enough to keep everyone comfortable in their kicks. line was ridiculous... i got on line around 11 and didn't get in til like 2:30. never had to wait that long at a sneakercon. lots of kids cutting the line of course. the heat was terrible.. luckily the italian ice spot across the street (Ralph's) was nice enough to send some dudes over and give out samples to people in line and take orders and run them across the street. i don't blame the sneakercon crew for the huge line, it was Baruch's checkpoint that made everything so slow. inside was great though, crazy heat and good deals. vendors are usually pretty nice too lots of free stuff to give away. sick atmosphere, worth the unusual wait. i'm definitely still going to the next one.

what are the prices for the shoes like at these events?
actual vendors tend to stay a little less than places like flight club, but are on the higher end of sneakercon prices just because a lot of their stuff is either deadstock or real close and they have the more popular heat, but usually you can haggle a little. the real deals come from like the regular people that come, especially if they're looking to try to get rid of something.
I hate bein a young sneaker head cuz its always so hard to get enough bread to go to these and actually get stuff u want I'm tired of new balances lmao but I noticed newyorkers (not all) are hypebeast lls like u live on a fashion port so many of em are trendy not sneakerheads but s/o to the sneakerheads who went thou

I picked up a DS pair of Kobe VI Chaos for $150 while I was there so I can't complain .. I rocked my "SVSM" Lebron 9's had dudes breakin their necks lol ... for ppl to say it was a hypebeast event probably just mad the line was too long
that's false .. I was there, and there definitely was alot of HEAT in the building!! OGs, Customs, New Releases, Euro exclusives, Tier 0 releases, etc everywhere, don't judge the event based on a couple pics SN posted. It was a great event dispite the weather outside and metal detector causing a looooooooong line but well worth the wait.

Just a week before the event, Baruch College decided they needed everyone to go through metal detectors which really caught us off guard. They really tied our hands and just wouldn't give us any leeway. When we first signed on for the venue, there were no such restrictions which would have made getting in very easy and fast. We even had advance tickets which was also shut down by Baruch. We apologize to everyone who stuck it out and waited to get in. Everyone appreciated the huge space we had this time but our goal will be to keep the event in a huge space but with out the entrance issue for the next NYC event in a few months.

Everybody Looked Like They was Balling.... Must Be Nice
by the time i reached the line was at least 2 hours. this had to be done at a venue that had a bigger gate than a city college gym. money motivates most and i think that can be said in respect to the organizers of this event. i left because of the long line. at $15 a head, if only 200 people were like me and left (and trust me a ton more left because of the line) the gate lost 3 stacks just there alone. screw it, my galaxy dunks with the matching galaxy elite socks blew all those hypebeasts out the water anyway. see my wdywt entry the day of

hey but im 15 years old and i've been collecting since i was 8 my whole family is full of sneakerheads my first pair of Js that i really wanted was those Old Love and New Love ONEs and I agree hella kids my AGE just started and DON'T know SHIT about Jordan Penny Lebron Kobe or Durant its sad the way this game is going but if you wanna stop HYPEBEASTS you gotta stop them when you see them wearing a Jordan OUT OF NOWHERE
