Sometime between the release of M83’s eponymous debut LP in 2001 and last year’s breakout Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, the record industry took a severe and irreversible nosedive. Computer technology simultaneously makes the French band’s brand of electropop more accessible to musicians and fans alike, but record sales will never recover now that you can dial up any single in seconds on YouTube. Around the same time, we’ve seen a sharp rise in collaborative marketing, as brands look to maintain relevance (not to mention their basic needs like food and shelter) by partnering on unique projects like this one centered around the M83 x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star. The M83 Chuck Taylors drop today along with a new contest to find three Hurry Up-inspired designs that will be made into posters for Central Park SummerStage as well as limited edition All Stars. The contest ends July 31st, so click through to see M83’s own, then submit your design for a chance to win.
