“Did I Do Thaaaat…?”

Only 80’s babies will understand that above reference to the time when “TGIF” meant sitting in front of the TV screen and not causing trouble with friends. Television has changed considerably since the peak of TGIF’s line-up of shows, and the same goes for the sneaker game; the reception to kicks has broadened to incredible dimensions that a once-maligned hobby – customizing kicks – is now one of trendiest aspects of the culture. Just a few years ago, custom kicks were often mistaken for counterfeits, particularly during a time when Louis Vuitton/Burberry-print Air Force 1s, Spongebob Squarepants Dub Zeros, and the infamous Big Pun ‘Jumpman’ joints swam around shady sneaker channels and were up for sale on Canal St. (the epicenter of all-things-variant).

Revive Customs, who has impeccably captured the ‘What The’ essence, hits us with a ‘What The Fake’ custom Air Jordan, calling out to days when counterfeit kicks ran amok while teetering on the sensitive line that separates fake from custom. Revive’s been doing the custom thing for a while (you might even remember his Air Force 1 ‘Canal St.’customs), so he understands firsthand how a pair of re-painted kicks could be confused with a fake, but as we mentioned before, things have changed indeed. Louis Vuitton, Spongebob, Big Pun, and even Steve Urkel’s face done ‘Mars Blackmon’ style make cameo appearances on this latest ‘What The’ custom, so check out the images below and give us your personal ‘fake sneaker’ story that you just can’t forget!
