Macklemore in Air Jordan XX8
February 11th, 2013 by Aaron Hope | 29 comments

Longtime Sneaker News readers might remember that the only time Macklemore previously graced these pages was shortly after releasing the Air Jordan-inspired single ‘Wings’. About two years later, the Seattle emcee has done what no other independent artist in the digital age could manage by taking ‘Thrift Shop’ to number 1. That level of fame brings the kind of connections that’ve made him the first celebrity we’ve seen aside from Spike Lee and Mike himself to show off the upcoming Air Jordan XX8 in a non-basketball context. Macklemore goes for a half-zipped approach that reveals the neon tongue and laces; how will you rock the visionary Air Jordan XX8 when they debut on Saturday?

These don't look too bad on his feet. Its probably because of the pic and the loss of most of the detail but they look smooth literally.
Bun B wore them like 2 weeks ago
Wacklemore in some wack ass jays.......next!
Did he already pick those things up at the thrift store?
*Air Jordan 3 Retro '88* I got a few pairs left. Size 13, 12, 11, 10.5, 10, 9, etc. E-mail me

I like his song "Wings" he speaks a lot of truth in the lyrics. I don't really see how he's being hypocritical. Yes he is talking about Nike but he's also talking about consumerism as a whole. Consumerism was the real point of the song. Whether it's shoes, jeans, houses or cars many of us are sucked into the mentality of "I got to have it". I think he was trying to point out how having the latest product or gadget makes us feel that we have reached some imaginary finish line and we are at the top of our game. That's until the next big thing drops and we find ourselves chasing after it. I don't think he was saying he boycotted Nike but he simply realized the futility of placing such value on material things. And he probably got the shoes for free anyway. :)
wings is about how Nike brainwashed his generation (and still are today) into believing that there shoes would make you cool and better at sports and what Macklemore is saying the wings is that Nike lied to everyone and that you all have to realize there just another pair of shoes.... and since he has the All Star Weekends song for one of their advertising campaigns (which is wings, go figure) he would of got free kicks.
@JustSoChill "Realize there are just another pair of shoes?" Where there?
And "he would of got free kicks"?, of what kicks are you talking about? Your english needs work, homie! :/
@gotjordans
thanks for the english lesson but if i wanted one i would go to school ... this is a sneaker blog were we talk about sneakers a.k.a kicks and people who wear said sneakers... and at the end of the day THEY ARE just another pair of shoes and the XX8's don't know anyone who you fork out money for them so he would of had to got them for free.
the first error was my bad though i type to fast and don't re-read
@JustSoChill @gotjordans fucking grammar police got nothing better to do ..
@CreatedByLeon @gotjordans seriously your still going on about this i said would of instead of would have so what are you trying to tell me you have a masters in english and teach and at the college level... i highly doubt it... so i get a life because really if correcting peoples mildly bad grammatical mistakes make you happy then you have some serious issues...
@gotjordans Your fucking retarded. if you cant understand what he is trying to say then your the one who has fucking mental issues.
@TheKid @JustSoChill mind your own business, kid! LOL
@gotjordans @JustSoChill shut up. its clear what he is trying to say. If you can't understand that comment you must have some serious issues
@JustSoChill and understand it too. :D
@JustSoChill sorry if I am being a dick, but I'm just trying to read your comment LMAO!
@JustSoChill U said "would of" again...! LMAO!
I don't care if the Pope wears them, I still don't like them, let alone coughing up $250.00 for them! :D
Who knows he could have gotten them for free. A lot of companies send him clothes and stuff he may have gotten these too since he's been so popular recently.
@5Sully he is still endorsing everything that he claims to be against
@TheKid point taken but if you see pictures of all the shoes he wears he rocks jays a lot. I read an interview he did about how Phil Knight manipulated the masses "but i love his shoes."
he is a bit hippocratic, he says spendin 50 dollars on a t-shirt "gettin swindled and pimped...tricked by business" but here he is in 250 sneakers...smh #justkeepitreal
so how is he the hypocrite. You don't buy new nike's? i'm willing to bet that you do, if that is the conclusion you draw by listening to wings (which im not saying that isnt the message of the song) we are all still slaves to the swoosh, including mack, which is also the message of the song. So if the conclusion you came to from listening to the song was simply that nike is brainwashing people into buying expensive sneakers then who is the hypocrite?
@BigReezy206 "wings" is macklemore trying to show that nike is selling us an image. what we are buying is just the brand. People just want them because they are told that wearing nike will make you cool. I'm not saying i agree with that so dont bring me into this. he is a hypocrite because he sings about ^^^, yet the next day he is walking down the street wearing the latest air jordan. he doesnt listen to his own advice.
who is this dude??? anyone heard of him besides seattle?
so he sings wings, a song about how nike is brainwashing people into buying expensive sneakers... then he wears the 28's. fucking hypocrite
