Nike All-Star Battle: Area 72 vs. Galaxy

One year ago from around this time of year, Nike Basketball broke new ground and redefined the ‘Pack’, stretching the limits of sneaker colorways and details in the process. Of course, we’re referring to the ‘Galaxy’ Pack, which included the three signature Nike Basketball models, the outrageously popular Air Foamposite One, the rekindled fire of the Air Flight One, and several Nike Sportswear models. The bold colorways, glow-in-the-dark detailing, and ‘galaxy’ backdrop ignored the traditions of Blue (East) and Red (West) while setting a new and perhaps impossible-to-meet standard of All-Star kicks, and after the excitement around 2012′s ‘Galaxy’ Pack started to die down, all eyes were focused on what Nike had in store for 2013.
Luckily for us, the 2013 All-Star Game would take place in Houston, a city also well known for its connection to space exploration; Nike recently unveiled the entire 2013 All-Star Pack inspired by the fictional ‘AREA 72′, which produced another vivid set of color compositions for the trio of Nike Basketball signatures while introducing the highly anticipated Barkley Posite Max and the oft-retroed Air Force Max. There’s no doubt the upcoming releases would have us muttering “Houston, we have a problem”, so before the release goes down for good, let’s hear your opinion on the Area 72 vs. Galaxy matter. Does the 2013 Collection live up to the Galaxy standard, or does it perhaps fall short or go beyond what was expected? All they really did is rotate the colors kdiv=lbx kobe8=lb9 and kd v= Kobe 7 its really not much different I just like this year more cause its more fashionable
It's 2-4,this years Kobe and air max. The rest were better last year!!!
Galaxy hands down. Only disputable shoe in my eyes was the Kobes. I feel like Nike should have incorparated the Rayguns into more of the shoes and done a new Rayguns commercial with the Nike players.

I got it Galaxy: 3, Area 72: 2. I like this years Kobe and KD better than last years ASG version.
The first is always better than the second. Idea was fresh last year. This idea for this year just feels like its rehashed. Area 72 would have made more sense for me if the game took place in New Mexico (Area 51).
Its hard to decide between the kobes in the matchup!

Lebron 9 over the X Kobe 8 over the 7 KD V or the 6 The last two for me was a hard one Foamposite Galaxy over the Barkleyposite Air Force Max just slightly over the Air Flights if I could do a tie I would cause these two or the best out of both packs.

Only Kobe 8 'Area 72' beats its Galaxy counterpart because Kobe 7 design itself is a massive failure.

Man if yall thing this years all star pack is better, U crazy last yeah pack went out the box and made a sick combo of kicks, this year was pertty much a copy of last yeah wit no spice, what is that on the barkleys suppose to be the foams of this year lol the only 72 i give is the max is the tuffest one out of this year pack. But this year is still a must have cause they the latest kicks so thats my opinion
SIde by Side comparisons the Galaxy pack wins out EXCEPT for the Kobes I think the 8's are more of a head turner and that bright color really pops, for the legacy shoes Id understand if nod was given to the Force Maxes, the fact that it was the first time the Flight Ones were retroed does IMO hold more nostalgia value......That said I hope to end up with the Forces and Lebron X out the Area 72 pack
@BackWearinthe45 The kobe 8s color does make them a head turner, but im not feeling the meteor/crator design on the upper. i like how the kobe 7 used an actual galaxy print on the upper then added a glow sole, it was a match made by the gods bro

@Dee_retro And those Xs probably are the most horrid creation ever concocted by Nike, same with the barkleys. Once you guys stop craving bright crazy designs and can appreciate a shoe that is well put together and actually thought out, you can post on this site.
@Dee_retro Have you ever seen the big bangs in person? They are FAR from plain. The lining and tongue logo adds spice to the bright orange that breaks necks. Also the 3m and the glow in the dark effect are sweet.

Last Years KD's & Kobe's over this years. Although it's close, the Lebron X's are doper than the 9's. And when you don't take into consideration the hype...The Barkley Posites go waaaaaay harder than the Galaxy Foams
@ChazzoCromartie Im not a big fan of the galaxy foams but those barkleys are absolute garbage. Same with the X's. Probably the worst shoes ever by Nike.
