Nike Skateboarding has gradually expanded its reach over the past few years. It started with the P-Rod series showing up in more than just the core local skate shops that had been synonymous with the SB label for the better part of a decade. Paul Rodriguez’ signature line did very well at stores like Zumiez and CCS brick and mortar stores were opening across the country, and Nike SB was suddenly more available than ever before. CCS parent company Foot Locker announced it was moving the OG catalog brand back to an online-only format starting this June, and while everyone has a smartphone, that leaves SB out of many markets.
This business move looks like another big step forward, because if all 451 Dick’s Sporting Goods stores start stocking Swoosh skate gear, distribution will reach an all-time high. This photo depicting a Nike SB display in California via Ripped Laces looks to be a sign of things to come, but just as has been the case for the past few years, you can expect the most coveted drops to be exclusive to core shops as a commitment to the whole “Support Your Local” movement. The highly successful signature lines for guys like Rodriguez, Eric Koston and Stefan Janoski have proven their demand for years; how do you feel about more Nike SB storefronts as part of skateboarding’s ongoing maturation?
