Is this another step toward wiping out automated bots? For this morning’s release of the Nike Kobe 9 EM “Philippines”, Nikestore implemented a “Countdown to Launch” procedure, which is as straightforward as it sounds – a live, countdown ticker until the shoes officially become available. Nike now offers up the link for purchase earlier than the designated release date/time, and no page refresh would be required, meaning this adds in yet another human element to sneaker buying – waiting. Does this accomplish anything for the battle against the bots, or more specifically, against those who have gained access to purchase links prior to the launch times? Other big retailers have been using a countdown procedure for some time now, but this would be Nike’s first experience with the style of release, and there were certainly some first-time issues as buyers (or hopefuls) noted some difficulty selecting sizes using specific web browsers. Let us know in the comments if you like this new change, and stay tuned to Sneaker News for updates.
Countdown to launch. When the clock hits zero, it’s go time. No refresh needed.

@sneakernews need size 10.5
Makes it way easier for bots. Just script in countdown :00 add to cart. Just like the footlocker eastbay bots
@sneakernews need a size 9...me love you long time
@sneakernews need an 8
I gave up trying to cop Jordans online. I'd rather wait in line, get a ticket or press my luck thru a raffle.
Useless in my opinion because people will still refresh the page because the timer has the tendency to be out of sync since its run locally on the user's browser. Try letting it run for more than 10 minutes and then refresh your page.. you'll notice that the timer is more than 3 seconds delayed which will result in you missing out once it reaches to 0 since other people have started adding to their carts and you're still in the process of selecting your size.
@sneakernews didnt work anyways
@sneakernews anyone need a size 14 or 12?
When is enough, enough? Just make more of the damn shoe so everyone that wants it can get it. I'm not jumping through hoops
Just release millions of sneakers Nike SMFH. Be like Rockstar Games makin' billions or trillions of dollars!!
I was happy to see the countdown screen until the clock hit zero and a screen popped up on my phone directing me to share info of the release on Twitter and Facebook. After that, I knew I missed my chance.
East bay & Footlocker has been doin a countdown clock fa yrs now. They need to do a puzzle or sequence b4 ur able to add to ur cart. Plus they need a better server
if they don't already, they need to randomize the order that people are on the site at launch time are allowed access. meaning luck of the draw to see who buys first. bots are worthless then.
Why not make you solve the puzzle before they get put in the cart, bots rendered useless, how have they not thought of this?
where's the part of this article saying.. "BUT IT DIDN'T WORK" ?? Only those on the mobile site were able to add to cart, Desktop version on all browsers FAILED MISERABLY.
@running_sneakers23 The kobe 9s where TLO also untill last minute.... i think this will be the same as for the carmines... at least you know now... use your cell and your desktop.... time will tell tomorrow though....
i used my cell and i kept hitting the add to cart button and nothing would happen, no error message, no waiting screen nothing, i tried a few times and same thing, nothing
